Default Other birth control methods

Hi All,

I am thinking of getting off Yasmin and going on Metformin 6 months from now (after making dietary changes. Doctor recommended diet and lifestyle changes first with the help of a dietician that specializes in diabetes). The doctor told me that I can only do one or the other, not both.

Metformin will significantly improve my condition whereas Yasmin is a "band aid solution"

Of course, I was terrified as Yasmin IS my preferred birth control method! I did not know what else to turn to as condoms irritate my skin! Has anyone tried getting on other methods of birth control aside from condoms? What are the advantages/disadvantages? any strange allergic reactions?

thanks!

Try a non hormonal IUD. They last for 5-10 years and you don't need to worry about taking pills each day and they are about 98% effective. I'm so happy with mine. I'm also taking Cerazette POP alongside, not for contraception so much, but for my awful period pains and PMT that lasts all month! It's been a bumpy ride with this pill, I'm nearly due to start my 3rd month, so hopefully it is settling down and I will soon feel great!

By the way, I have no children, but still managed to get an IUD fitted. Some doctors are funny about this but you can get somebody to fit it for you. Painful insertion, feels like bad period pains, then a day or two to settle and then you feel fine.

Good luck xx

I was on the NuvaRing and because of the depression I experienced came off of ALL hormonal BC for good. I decided on a diaphragm. It's rubber, so I'm not sure if it or the spermicide would irritate you, but I LOVE my diaphragm.

You have to be "fitted" for it by your GYN, and when I want she was honest with me and told me she'd only given 3 in the last year and they all hated it. I think it was easier for me because I am already very familiar with my sunshina, my cervix, etc (I was TTC in my first marriage), so putting it in was no big deal. It took a few tries to get it right but now I have little trouble.

My BF and I work separate schedules so we're not given the luxury of being too spontaneous, so I will put mine in Friday night, take it out Saturday when I shower...then put it in again later Saturday and take it out Sunday evening, etc. I never feel it. I've been using it since May and wouldn't go back to any other BC. Even when I don't have it in and have to be like "oh let me go get my diaphragm" it's really not that big of a deal. The spermicide gives me extra "lube" too which is cool, hehe!

Anyway, just wanted to give an opinion on something very few women probably use or ever try. Good luck to you trying to find a new method! I considered and IUD as well, but am glad I tried this first. I do pretty well with things like this that I can have total control over.

Good luck!
