Question OUCH! Serious red hives after first laser removal

Hi girls. I finally bit the bullet and went yesterday for my first laser hair removal treatment. I was very happy with how it really didn't hurt -- it was nothing compared to the electrolysis that I have tried in the past. And, I can see the hair falling out, but my problem is that I have serious red hives that are burning and swollen - especially on my chin.

How long does this sort of rash last? I am icing and putting aloe vera on constantly, but ouch!!! Fortunately, I had 2 days off from work because I don't think I could go out in public like this. Is this a normal reaction?

Thanks!

EDIT: Well, I called the doctor and know why I was having trouble...I was having an allergic reaction to the aloe vera. So, I have new drugs and the hives aren't as itchy and swollen, but I am still swollen and nasty. Not sure if I can go through this again!

The same thing happened to me. I had my first laser treatment yesterday and my face is still swollen today. Be vigilant about washing and puting the creams on that they give you. Mine has gone down from yesterday and should be a lot better by Friday or so.. I've had laser before, and I had this red hive reaction along with white tiny zits all over. Thank god I don't have the zits this time. Just the swollen hives. I try to schedule my appointments so I have some time off from work to "recover".

What laser are you using? Are your hormones regular?

HANG IN THERE!!! U can do it.

Thanks for the reply! The cream they gave me for the allergic reaction from the aloe vera helped immediately. Within 2 days, the red hives were gone and I just have little remnants of the blisters healing. But, the hair is GONE for now!

Don't have my hormones completely under control 'cause we're TTC. I had to take a month off before another test, so I figured i might as well squeeze one round of laser in.

I am sure I will do it again and keep my fingers crossed the red rash and blisters don't appear. But, now that I know my allergy, hopefully it won't happen!

How many treatments have you had?

I've only had 1 treatment. Supposedly it's going to take 2 weeks for the hairs to fall out and my face to look better. That sucks. It's really wierd, it's like the hairs are burnt in the exact same place. I have little black dot hairs that I can't shave off. I had to go to work tonight and it sucked to have what looks to be a shadowy rash on my face. Oh well though...I just hope the hair falls out and it works.

Hello-

I am wondering what the chances the hair will come back? I have had electrolysis in the past without success. I had large pimple type sores after electrolysis that looked horrible. I used neosporin to prevent infection.
Thanks!
