Default Ovarian drilling???

Hello I am wanting some information on a couple of issues if anyone out there have had same or close to experience please feel free to share.

Ok me and dh been trying to conceive since Jan 08 I was diagnosed with pcos in Feb. I took first round of 50 mg clomid in July 08 and became pregnant but it ended in miscarriage at 5 wks so I had a D&C done late August 08. After that I saw my gyn and she prescribed me stronger clomid 100 mg she said we would keep uping dose until it worked. She didnt moniter my ovaries after clomid so I wasnt sure if pills were in fact successful. I have a neice who went to mexico ( she is from there ) to see a fertility doctor because of trying to conceive for 3 yrs having other complications. Well she became pregnant with twins. So I decided to see same doctor in Mexico because of success story for her and less expensive for me. I explained my whole situation to doctor and have been seeing her for 4 months. First plan she wanted to do was to get me to have a period on my own without having to be pill induced and in the event that pregnancy would occur I wouldnt get af. So I faithfully had af every month since. When I do get af I start clomid and she monitors my ovaries and have had an hcg shot also still have not become pregnant. Well this is last month of trying this regiman I just got off af taking clomid now and seeing her on Mon July 6th to see my ovaries and to give me another hcg shot. If pregnancy does not occur this month she wants to do ovarian drilling in August. She said I am responding good to medication and thinks maybe my cysts might be blocking passage way for eggs to meet sperm. Ok so here are my questions... My mother had a d&C done many yrs ago she was trying to become pregnant and was not able to so she went to see her doctor and he informed her that her cervix had closed maybe from healing I dont know but he then did a procedure on her and after that she became pregnant. I am wondering if this could be something that happened to me because I have not become pregnant since M/C and D&C and have responded to clomid and shots. Has anyone heard of this? Could my cervix be closed is this possible and does it cause infertility? I would assume if someone had this happen to them that it would be difficult for sperm to pass through but then again would I not get my period either? I am looking for all alternatives other than ovarian drilling. Next question is instead of me paying out of pocket for this procedure in mex which will cost me 2500.00 if my insurance would cover it? I know it wont if its deemed for trying to conceive purposes but if doctor said it was medically necessary for health issues it then would be covered. Is this something a doctor would be able to do? I mean even if I wasnt trying to get pregnant I would still see doctor for treatment of pcos and would still have cysts that cause pain at times wouldnt that procedure be part of treatment for pcos? Any info will be appreciated...

If in fact you are responding well to clomid, maybe your husband should be checked for any issues with his sperm count or morphology. Most places wont treat you until your partner is checked as well, I mean if you are going thru all these procedures and meds, he should be checked to make sure that you aren't wasting your time. My husband was so sure that he had no issues, he was too "macho" to and the analysis showed pretty drastic sperm issues, bad enough that we were told that IVF would be our best bet. Give it some thought before you go thru a surgery, check his sperm!!!

What your mom probably had was intrauterine adhesions - scar tissue that can form inside the uterus after a D&C that is done improperly and scraped too deeply. It is also called Asherman's Syndrome. If you are having your period then rest assured - your cervix is NOT blocked and my guess is that you do not have any adhesions in your uterus. If you have had an HSG (Hysterosalpingogram) done (I REALLY hope you have!!) then it would've showed up on that. If you have not had one done yet, I'd have one done BEFORE you do anything else (ASAP!!), just to make sure your tubes are not blocked. I know it can be stressful wondering why everything isn't working when you think everything has been fixed. Sometimes it just doesn't happen and it isn't anyone's fault. Just try to be patient. Believe me, I understand and I know patience is next to impossible when trying to conceive, and I also know that clomid does not make ANYTHING any easier, but just try to do what you can because stress is your enemy right now.

I totally agree with the poster above - I sincerely hope that DH has already been checked. I had a doctor put me on clomid and not monitor me as well, and I had to MAKE him test my husband AND do the HSG test (unbelievable!!).

I also just had ovarian drilling done and do not have coverage for anything related to infertility. I think every plan is different and it doesn't hurt to at least TRY to get it covered, but I can tell you personally that for me, mine was not covered and we are paying out of pocket.

Best of luck to you.

I have ovarian drilling done and its was covered by my insurance (Blue Cross/Blue Shield). They never even questioned it. I went through 5 years of fertility drugs (which were not covered) though before I did ovarian drilling. My doctor also flushed my tubes during the procedure, so I got 2 for 1. Ovarian drilling can cause scarring and infertility, so you might want to try other things first. Drilling worked for me and I have a 10 month old now, but you need to check out all other avenues (including DH's sperm) before you go the surgical route.

Best of luck.
