Hi there...
I went to a fertility specialist today hoping to get some answers on what I should be taking for my PCOS while TTC...He did a vaginal ultrasound & found that one of my ovaries is behind my uterus. He said it is probably from the C-section. He also mentioned possible endometriosis & said that that could have resulted in my polycystic ovaries & the symptoms associated with PCOS. He scheduled me for a laparascopy in a few wks. I am a bit nervous.
Does anybody else out there have a similar situation?
Or any experience with these things?

Sounds like endometriosis. You probably have some adhesions/scar tissue that has tucked your overy behind your uterus, but I have heard that previous surgeries, like you C-section can also cause the same scar tissue.
I think it would be hard to tell without a LAP.
When I had my LAP, the doctor actually found my uterus was attached to my abdomen by a band of scar tissue.

My left ovary is in the same position. The gyno didnt mention endometriosis and told me that sometimes the ovaries just move around. He suggested pelvic floor excercises to strengthen the surrounding muscles. I was quite concerned but he said it shouldnt be a problem. Goodluck with your laparascopy and please let us know how it goes

My ovry did that during an ultrasound. It kept moving on her. I guess it was camera shy. hehe. :-) They never told me there was anything else wrong besides PCOS

I was just wondering how long ago your c-section was?
It has been about 2 1/2 yrs since my C-section.

During my 1st ivf, my left ovary was hidden behind my uterus, and go figure that was the side that had the better follicles, so I had to cancel the cycle because they couldn't access the follicles. They told me that sometimes the ovaries move and drop down with the meds (ivf stims) but that didn't happen to me. Luckily the second time my right ovary stimulated better. They didn't say anything to me about endometriosis though, just that it sometimes happens that way. Frustrating enough now that I am about to try again and I have no clue whatsoever which side will do better I am praying though I don't have to cancel this cycle though.

Yes, the DR did say its probably from the C-section. I am wondering if the ovary moved there during the healing process from the scar tissue, or if it had to have been accidentally cut during the C-section...

Thanks Kellie! I think the problem with me is the pain...in my pelvic area & also during intercourse (for 2 years!!) I think thats why he said possible endo....also, it seems that my ovary may have attached itself to my uterus....I dont know I'm trying to understand this all..its quite overwhelming, thinking u r seeing a DR to get on meds for your PCOS & finding u need surgery because your ovary is lost in there behind your uterus. Thanks for your post! I will keep you informed after the surgery.

Hmmm...I would ask your dr more about that...or get a second opinion.
Seems we need to take charge when it somes to our bodies....I have had this pain for 2 YEARS with no explanation until I finally switched to a new dr! Crazy, huh? Take care of yourself Twilite! Keep me posted!

Hi Lily....did they mention why your left ovary was behind your uterus? DO you know if u were born that way? Best of luck with your IVF!!!

Hi Jessica, I've been avoiding this thread b/c I went through heck with endometriosis and laps and still am.
From experience, it took many years of pain-a mistake by an obygyn during my second lap-a suggestion of a hysterectomy, and 3 laps to put my endometriosis at bay.
I had blocked tubes, massive amounts of adhesions connecting my abdomen to my uterus, a mass on my ovary, and tons of endo attaching my ovary to my bowel. To this day when I get my period the surgery site-inside my bowel, causes a lot of pain. The surgeon did great though, ovarian drilling, drastic, sounds bad, but it's not, and it helped 99%-the PCOS and endo anyway. Endometriosis isn't life threatening, but it sure threatens our way of life.
ouuch!
The laps truly are a puece of cake, please let us know how you're doing.
All the best to you

Thank you so much for sharing this! I am sorry for your painful journey. Sounds like you have been through a lot in dealing with this. I will let you know what I find out after my surgery on June 8th (that day can't come soon enough for me!) Thanks again for your support, it really means a lot to me
