Well. Since my trip to South America and visited my Family Doctor down there he sent me to get an internal ultra sound and found a cyst that was the size of a 25 cent gumball on my left ovary. Ever since then and before I have experienced pain down there. More like during sex and right after my period. My doctor suggested to remove it but I heard you can be out for about a couple of weeks... Does anyone have this problem. Like a cyst of that size. Should I remove it? Please help cysters!
If it bothers you at all I would have it removed and analyzed. A friend of mine had one taken out and it was begining to form cancer cells in the core. Needless to say they removed the whole ovary and put her on treatment. If it were me I'd like to be safe. Good luck!

It all depends on what type of cyst you have. Did they tell you if it was a follicular cyst (these are the normally tiny cysts PCOSers have since we can't get that sucker to release an egg-not PCOSers get them monthly too but one releases an egg and the rest go away), a corpus luteum cyst (this is also a completely normal cyst that not PCOSers get every month after the follicle releases an egg it hangs around for a while and is called the corpus luteum). Sometimes the corpus luteum which is normally lima bean sized just keeps accumulating fluid and can get big. They usually don't remove these because their really common, normal, and go away on their own 95% of the time in 1-3 months . They will remove it if it persists or is causing you pain. One way to shrink the cyst on its own is to go on BCP (if you aren't TTC). Ask your doc about that. If you are in agony, they can do surgery.
Now, there are other kinds of cysts -those associated with endometriosis- sometimes called chocolate cysts. Those gotta come out usually.
Also some abnormal cysts called dermoid cysts. They don't go away and if quarter sized- usually they take them out because those can twist and cut off the blood supply to your ovary...and then they have to take the whole ovary out.
So, to really weigh your options, you need to find out what kind of cyst it is.
In any case, your cyst can be removed laparoscopically using instruments inserted through a tiny hole cut under your belly button. It is an outpatient procedure and you are back to normal in 1-3 days (uncomfortable the first day mostly because they pump you full of fluid and gas to move organs out of the way in there).
I had a corpus luteum cyst that was causing me a lot of pain...but only intermittently- about the same size as yours....a waited and after two months it went away.

I didn't check your age but just to ease your nerves...Ovarian cancer is exceedly rare in women in their 20's. And they can tell if a cyst is suspicious by how it looks on the ultrasound. That is why they remove solid-appearing cysts like dermoids and chocolates. I suspect you have a fluid-filled cyst-either corpus luteum or follicular if your doctor wasn't keen on having surgery.
If it is a dermoid, I suggest having it removed

I had one about the size of my big toe removed from my left ovary about 8 yrs ago. They tried BCP's n such in hopes that it would shrink but it wouldnt.
So i went for lathoscopic surgery and had it done. Was home about 5 hours later.
The incisions really didnt hurt. I think the most painful part of the entire mess was they were also doing a D&C at the same time. I dont remember which procedure required it but they filled my uterus up with gas.
For about a week afterwards it was difficult to sit, laydown and stand on my own because my sides and shoulders hurt. They told me before i left the hospital that this may happen because your insides get pushed up from the gas and may have "discomfort" when they begin to re-settle.
But once i was up walking around it didnt feel so bad. It was just the getting up part that was ech.
