Have any of you heard anything about it being wise for PCOS women to get their ovaries removed after having babies to reduce their risk of cancer? Someone said that to me a few weeks ago and I have been wondering about it. I want to have another child, but I thought if I do, should I get them removed...they are all but worthless anyways....your thoughts?
I haven't heard of that before. Have you talked to a dr about this because I don't think that it's an elective surgery anymore?
I'm facing a possible hysterectomy, and I'm worried that the dr will have to take my ovaries. My hormones are already whacked out.
Well I have plenty of time...I am not having another one for a few years. Sorry about your upcoming surgery-UGGH. I guess the good thing is you'll lose a few pounds by not having those parts?
I am facing a possible hystrectomy as well. My doctor is advising it to reduce the cancer possibility. We had to make a case for it for insurance puropses. I am having cysts rupture at random now. It is extremely painful.

I'll find out Monday for sure. I have an US scheduled, followed by an appointment with the dr to go over my labs. I'm totally stressing and munching on 'no-nos'. I ate a medium bag of peanut M&Ms myself. Monday isn't getting here soon enough

Hmmmm...wonder if that was what my friend was talking about. She mentioned ovaries. Will you be getting a partial or full hysterectomy?

oh that sounds good-I want some REAL food! You know, chocolate cake or cherry pie, the good stuff.
I'll be paying for it later. It'll all go straight to my belly. lol
Ahhh...too bad you aren't having a c-section, or I would suggest for the doc to do a tummy tuck while there. You'll not be feeling like eating for a few days after the surgery, so enjoy the food while you can. You'll probably be on a liquid diet for a few days *GAGS*
I would seriously talk to a Reproductive Endo before considering it. PCOS is heavy on my mother's side of the family and the women with PCOS that had complete hysterectomies had no relief from symptoms or health issues. The underlying cause of PCOS in most women is insulin resistance and the ovaries are more victims of the insulin resistance rather than the cause of the problem- if that makes sense. And once your ovaries are gone it will throw you into sudden menopause and you'll probably need hormone replacement therapy and now they are claiming that HRT's cause all these health problems.... its like trading one problem for another. Just my two cents
Yuck... I'll have to remember to add that to my list of allergies when I go on Monday, and hope that she believes it
OH good one, I will have to remember that too-allergic to chicken, beef broth, jello, etc. LOL then they will probably just give you an IV and no FOOD!
a hysterectomy sounds very stressful. i hope it goes well!
you said that it would reduce cancer risks. did you mean ovarian cancer? i was trying to find out it pcos and ovarian cancer are linked.

That's what I was wondering I dont remember reading any medical information about it, but a few weeks ago someone had mentioned that to me, so I thought I would see if you ladies had heard of it. Heck, if you're done having kids and it reduces the risk of cancer, I am all for it.
