I had a SAH/BSO in Feb/05. My Dr now claims that I no longer have PCOS. However, I do have hyperinsulinemia. My first lab work 8 weeks after my surgery showed that my testosterone was smack dab in the "normal" range. I am obviously still producing testosterone somewhere. Can it fluctuate?
I am on bio-identical hormone creams: biest and progesterone, but just can't seem to get things balanced. Pharmacist just wants to keep increasing. My call to him yesterday because of hot flashes caused him to increase my biest to 3.0, which is not really so high, but he wants me to be on 100mg of progesterone/day. This seems high to me.
This is my question, and I haven't been able to find any answers anywhere else.
If PCOS involves the whole endocrine system, then aren't there other organs and glands involved? Are there needs specific to PCOS that should be taken into consideration when trying to balance hormone levels?
I would really appreciate any information you can give me, I think I am going nuts!!!!

I had hoped to find someone with some experience balancing hormones with PCOS after hysterectomy/oopherectomy. Perhaps I am posting on the wrong board? If someone could direct me to a more appropriate board dealing with post oopherectomy and PCOS I would greatly appreciate it.
Just for someone else who may be experiencing the same thing, I have just had my hormones changed again, and it appears to be much better so far. Apparently, for me, it is important to have a higher progesterone level than the non-pcos patient. I am guessing that this is because the adrenals are still putting out a lot of hormones? Again, I would be grateful for any insight or experience that anyone else may have had with this issue.
I am also interested in knowing if Testosterone levels tend to fluctuate after ovary removal?
I also can not answer your question, but I am scheduled for an open laparotomy with cystectomy and possible oopherectomy on August 8th. If they need to, they will only be removing one though, and from what I understand that will not effect my hormones. I wish I could answer your question, but unfortanatley I can not. May we should suggest a board for all lap and other surgery conversations?
