You're not the same person that posted this in TTC earlier right? Someone else reported bleeding starting on CD13 I think...

I took ovcon35 for several months. Every month, around CD11, I would commence bleeding like a stuck pig. Not SPOTTING, but blood pouring out of me when I would sit on the toilet. It would look like there was a murder in the bathroom. It was heinous...

I don't know why it is... Ovcon35 is supposed to be a good pill for PCOS but it seems a lot of women have problems with breakthrough bleeding on it. It's not a low estrogen pill so I don't know why this is. I have spotted on pills that are lower in estrogen, Yasmin and Alesse for example... but nothing has ever made me bleed like Ovcon.

There is another dosage available, Ovcon50, with more estrogen (35 is sort of mid-range/standard)... that might help for women who bleed on the 35 dose. But I am not sure. As I understand it, there is an estrogen and a progestin component to the pill. The progestin helps build the uterine lining, the estrogen helps hold it all together until it's time to shed it. Maybe the progestin in Ovcon causes such a rapid and thorough build-up in some women that there's nothing to happen but for it to spill out despite the estrogen?

no, deffinatly a different person on the ttc thread.

thanks for your response, so far the bleeding has only been for an hour or two, but it freaked me out, and I am only on it for another month, so I think I can handle it...

The Doc wanted to give me Yasmin, but there was an interaction w/ my hctz, so she gave me this instead.

Again, thanks

I don't know what it is about Ovcon. But I had breakthrough bleeding as well... On the week before AF was supposed to come... For those of you that had problems with Ovcon, what did you switch to? Any advice would be helpful. I got so fed up with the bleeding that I went off the pill and now am just on Provera.. Help! Thanks.

Well I went back on Yasmin which also made me spot but not as bad. It really just made me SPOT as opposed to GUSH. I knew this when i went on it, though... I got pregnant on it before and was hoping for another miraculous conception... but I guess I've already gotten my lifetime quota of those.

Prior to these two pills, I never had a problem with spotting on BCPs except for the low dose pills (Alesse, Mircette...)

There's a sticky on this board about finding a good BCP... it's the last sticky, there are three links in it, I think the 1st is the one I like. There's a chart... It's just a guideline of course. There is one other BCP that is supposed to be good for PCOS and is available in the US... I think it's Demulen. It might be Desogen. One of the two is chemically identical to OrthoCept and that is NOT the one I mean, it's the other one. OrthoCept and its equivalant made me just about suicidal - although I think it's supposed to be OK for PCOS, too, but the other one I had always heard really good thiings about before Yasmin came out.

OrthoCyclen may be a good one, too.

Just avoid the triphasics as a rule of thumb... some cysters do OK on them but a lot don't.

sarbear FWIW I *have* heard of women who did just fine (no spotting) on Ovcon.

hmmm well that's a relief....however, i have kin of an odd question. Ok, so I started taking the pill sunday right? Well i was sitting in class on thursday, and just started to feel really weird all of a sudden. I dunno it's hard to explain it...kinda lightheaded a little? Anyways, once that class was finally over, I went to the bathroom (which thanks to my spiro, I've been going before/after each class now) and as I was sitting there, I noticed I could see like every vein in my hands like really well. I dunno, I would say some of it could just be the lighting in there, but I've used that bathroom a hundred times and never noticed that before. However, I do have a slight history of passing out and I felt a little lightheaded, but not near that point. I dunno, it was just kinda weird. And I've felt totally fine ever since. Any thoughts on this?

How long have you been on spiro?

Spiro is a diuretic (as you seem to be realizing, heh) and dehydration can make you light headed and I believe make your veins more prominant... to a point... if you get too dehydrated I think your veins become hard to find...

Was it really warm when this happened? Heat can make your veins stand out, too.

I've been on Spiro since the end of august...I'm trying to remember if it was really warm when it happened...usually that classroom is freezing cold, but I don't think it was that day. I know the classroom before was really hot. I could understand those reasons you gave, and hopefully that's all it was. question about spiro though, I know you're not supposed to have too much potassium while on it, I'm just kinda curious as to what happens if you do?

Bump for any info on Ovcon35.

I was on OrthoTriCyclen on and off for about 6 years. I kept getting cysts, so about 1 1/2 years ago, my obgyn switched me to Ovcon35. I was on it for about 6 months, and it made me a moody b*tch. Seriously, I felt insanely angry on that medicine. So, I stopped taking it about 6 months ago. I got married October 1, 2005. Since then, I have not been on any BCP.

I have had suspicions for about 4 years that I have PCOS. Last week I went to my obgyn for my papsmear, and convinced her to draw blood to test for PCOS. I'm waiting for the results.

In the meantime, she prescribed Ovcon35 to me again, despite me telling her that I was not happy with it. I may consider taking it again, but ONLY if it is known to help PCOS symptoms. I really wanted to try Yasmin, but no dice right now. If the results point to yes, I might go back and beg for Yasmin again. Or go to my regular doctor for it... we shall see.

So who is on Ovcon35, and has it helped your symptoms?

I bled for 3 straight months on Ovcon 35. NOT FUN! I am now taking Ortho 1/35 and doing much better. My dr. is letting me take 84 active pills in a row with 7 days off at the end. My dr. did not feel there was any extra benefit for me to be on Ovcon.

Ashweekins ~ welcome to SC! as for yasmin, I believe there are alot of mommies on here the concieved while of yasmin, I don't know if you are TTC or not but that might be something you would like to know.

Aimnk ~ This is nosy, but what are you taking HCTZ for? I'm taking it for kidney stones but hadn't noticed anyone else on here taking it so i'm curious!

Dang i must have been real dry, LMAO, nothing would come down while I was on Ovcon. I took it for 8 months and it was only until I was put on Met did AF come. This is interesting. I was going to ask Doc could I take ovcon again because I have like 3 samples left.
