Lorraine -- have you had blood tests, or been diagnosed with this? What are your symptoms? Can your doctor provide some treatments?

To relax the adrenals, you could try herbs that are claming or sedating like valerian, kava, or any of the ones in those "herbal sleep aid" pills (I don't have a list). The other thing you can try is antihistamines. They can help too. But I would find out more about what is wrong with you before starting any kind of therapy.

Proudearth --

Did you have a blood test for cortisol, or 24-hour urine? If it was a blood test, was it in the morning or afternoon? Cortisol levels are higher in the morning and then taper off throughout the day. Do you find that you have trouble sleeping at night, or do you feel "jumpy"during the day? What other symptoms do you have?

If you have any adrenal issues then you might want to take an adaptogen (such as ginseng, rhodiola, etc.). The linked article has lots of info and recommends specifically SIBERIAN GINSENG for high cortisol levels, also PHOSPHATIDYL SERINE (especially if you have trouble sleeping at night, but this stuff is expensive!)

Good luck

As Simone said herbal relaxants can be very helpful in dealing with this problem. The reason the adrenals put out to much male hormones and adrenaline (leading to anxiety, depression, insomnia etc) is because of stress, from life pressures as well as diet (like too much sugar) Watching the diet is a given for any PCOS related problem (not one I do very well) but something I take is Siberian Ginseng, now it is going by the name Siberian Eleuthero (sp??) It is an adaptagen and helps you to deal with adrenal stress. So drink some herbal relaxant teas take the Ginseng and from what I have heard the Schizandra could be a good thing too.
Blessings,
Sheri

Proudearth,

Schisandra is an adaptogen and it is good for liver function, which is good for PCOS anyways (according to Traditional Chinese Medicine).

I'm sorry your doctors aren't helping you. I did a quick search on the kidney stones, and it seems that one of the easiest things you can do is add lemon juice to your water. Also take magnesium, which is important for PCOS too, and may help you to feel more relaxed if you are deficient (take calcium and magnesium at night to help you sleep).

Here are some sites I found.
