Default Overweight, not getting AF?

Hey-

Is there anyone in this room that is overweight and not getting af regulary or on their own (without meds)?

Do you think your weight is causing af not to come regularly?

Default Not Uncommon

Hey cyster!
You are not alone! Lots of us are overweight, and yes this can lead to irregular af. These are both typical symptoms of PCOS. Have you been formally diagnosed?
I am not sure what sort of meds would be available for you to correct af if you are ttc. But perhaps some other cysters will know better than me.
Good luck!

Thanks for replying ladies-

Chulua- Is prometrium the same as progesterone(Medroxyprogeresterone). I have tried that to get af but it never worked. What else have you tried that hasnt worked? Have you always been overweight or just recently(past few years)? I have so many questions. So, your sig say you havent had af in 9 years and then you got it using met alone, that must of been nice. Do yo still have it regular? Have you lost alot of weight using met?

Default Mhmm

Let's see.. In Spt, Oc, and Nov I got AF on my own. The last two months I haven't gotten one at all. I do think that it is partially weight related, because I am 65 lbs overweight right now, but I also think that genetics play a great part in it as well. I have two aunts and a cousin who have PCOS too and all three of them are slim. I kinda wish I were too, but hubby tells me that it doesn't matter. I start the met on the first of Feb, so I don't wind up doing it in the middle of the month. Hopefully this will regulate AF and kickstart my body?

Default Yep

I was on the BCP for two years but that was from 92-94 and then I went off. Dr. stuck me back on it in 99 and I started having reaaaaally bad side effects. Mood swings galore. Poor hubby would do the "speak, duck, hide" thing on a regular basis because he never knew when I was going to pull the exorsist on him. I went off on my own and told the Dr. to NEVER put me on those things again.
Yes, I've had it happen before. It happens a few times a year where I will just get it for a few months and then it goes away...
Kind of tired of waiting for AF to show, ya know?

absolutely..... before the starting on Metformin my AF was very irregular... sometimes months between each on and then they would last for weeks at a time, heavy at first and then a slow, very slow flow for a couple weeks after... very frustrating.... but now, since starting on Met, I've had one normal period now... and it only lasted a week!... *woohoo*....

good luck!... and remember, you're not alone in this!

I have been a large size woman all my life. My weight is the issue for me when I lost 50lbs my periods started coming back every month and now that I am back up there again I have to have my periods provoked with the prometruim every month. I only had one period after being on Glucophage for a year and that is it! So I say weight is the factor for me anyway. You can email me if you want RCano@wycokck.org and put PCOS int he subject box and we can converse and compare LOL
