Default Ovidrel

I had a shot of Ovidrel for the first time on Friday (it hurt like hell). On Saturday, I was fine. I woke up Sunday with a lot of pain in my abdomen and had pain for most of the morning and afternoon (it brought tears to my eyes in the morning). I was urinating very strangely ... short bursts and then it would stop very quickly. And I was very bloated. Very bloated. Monday wasn't so bad ... no pain (except for a few tolerable pain spasms at night in bed), but tremendously bloated. I was urinating normally again. Today, the only problem I have is the horrible bloated feeling. I've been having problems with bloating on Glucophage XR (I have only been on the full dosage for about a month) ... but it had seemed to dissapate in the week before my Ovidrel shot. I had even started to lose weight. Now I feel like I've gained weight. Ugh.

Could this be ovarian hyperstimulation syndrom? And if I do have that, can I ever take Ovidrel again? I don't ovulate normally so if I can't take Ovidrel again, are there other ovulation medications that I can take? I'm starting to feel hopeless ...

Post Dear Wolfsong,

I have never had Ovidrel before, but I just want to wish you the best of luck in ovulation and hopefully your body is just reacting this way because it is just your first shot.

Take Care,
Jennifer

Arrow TammyLynn1976,

If you all don't mind me asking, what is Ovidrel for? Is it basically used to begin ovulation?

I'm not up on all the terminology, but I was on Clomid and then had follicular monitoring. When I had follicles big enough, my doctor made me take an ovulation test (the home ones) every twelve hours for thirty-six hours ... if I didn't ovulate (which I didn't) then he had me take an Ovidrel shot to make me ovulate. Supposedly it takes twenty-four hours and then you ovulate.

I spoke with my doctor last night and he said what I'm experiencing is perfectly normal. He said the bloating and discomfort should last until I get my period. If I'm pregnant, than it could last up to two months! I was very concerned about ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, but he said it almost never happens with Clomid. With gandotropins (spelling?), yes ... but not with Clomid. I guess with Clomid, you only have a few follicles that mature, so the OHSS doesn't occur. He said I only had one follicle on one ovary and three on the other (that were big enough at the time). The way he made it sound was that it wasn't a lot, so he wasn't concerned about OHSS at all. He did say that if I gain a lot of weight in a short period of time or have trouble breathing, I need to call him immediately.

I'm hoping all will go well. I just feel so gross and bloated. I look like I'm three or four months pregnant. And when I wear pants, its very uncomfortable ... I guess just from the sheer pressure of the clothing (they are not too tight). Between all the side effects I had from the Glucophage and now this, I don't even want to leave my house.

Thanks all for responding. It seems that not too many people are on Ovidrel. I'm wondering if maybe there's something else out there that will stimulate ovulation without all the side effects (and the pain of the needle in the stomach).

Thank you for explaining it, Kimberly Anne! I have been so interested in all of the different fertility treatments out there because my husband and I will be trying to get pregnant soon. It sounds like you have really been through a lot, but I hope this will result in your pregnancy soon!

Good Luck,
Jennifer
