Hmm, I've never heard of anyone starting Clomid without a bleed before. I always thought you had to have a period to start it because otherwise the uterine lining may not be adequate to receive a fertilized embryo? I could be wrong though, I'm no doctor...
Anyhoo, Clomid can affect your CM throughout the cycle so you are not necessarily ovulating just yet. I would definitely purchase an ovulation predictor kit. They can be a great guide to help you pinpoint your O day, but are no exact science, that's for sure! I can tell you First Response was great and was always clear for me.
