My Mood: Points: 1,149.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,149.32 | Ovulation Question...a little bit TMI I'm having some concerns and I knew the only place I could get the advice I needed was here, so here we go...
To make a long story short, my Dr asked me to go off of my pill in mid-July so that he could do some bloodwork and testing for my PCOS and not have the results tainted by the pill. Ok, no problem....I got off my pill. Now normally when I've gotten off my pill before, nothing...I mean NOTHING..has happened...no period, no cramps, no discharge...nothing..
So I got off my pill in July, and in the meantime have lost some weight. Well like clockwork, in September, I got my period almost to the day that I would've gotten it had I still been on my pill cycle. I was SO proud that I had finally gotten my period on my own!
My hubby and I decided to try to conceive, just to "see what happens" between now and my dr's appt at the end of october. So I bought one of those at home ovulation predictors just to make sure our timing was right...and I don't think it worked. Not only did my line not come up at ALL the test line was barely there...the pamplet that came with it says women with PCOS have issues with these kinds of tests...has anyone else?
I know, TMI, but I have EVERY SINGLE physical sympton of ovulation from the cramps to the change in discharge ...and nothing comes up on the test. If my timing is correct and I actually AM ovulating, this would be the week...so wer'e gonna try...but has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks for all of your support! |

I printed out a chart and each morning before getting up or moving (as close to the same time each day as possible) I took my temp and charted it.
When you have a slight raise (usually) followed by a big drop on the chart you are ovulating. You are looking for a drop of at least .4 degrees in 48 hours to indicate ovulation. Mine was always very noticeable. I got better at it after a few months, but know you don't have the time right now.
Other symptoms like cervical mucous will usually confirm your suspicion. If the temp stays up for the 2 weeks after, you may be pregnant.
One more thing and I do NOT know if this was a PCOS thing or not, but I NEVER tested positive for a pregnancy test when I should have- never- not with any of the 4 kids. I would think I was pregnant, but then wouldn't start, might even have cramps. (I had cramps on and off with each pregnancy and everything was fine). I had to have a blood test with #2 to confirm finally. They then did an ultrasound thinking something was wrong, but things were fine.
Thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone else is similar.
Do an online search for basal body temp and 1000 things come up. You can find free charts too. Read up on it and give it a try.
Best wishes,
Laurie

I think your best bet is to have your progesterone tested on day 21 of your cycle which would let you know if you ovulated according to a 28-day cycle.
Also, many cysters get pregnant right off the pill (and right after giving birth) because those events seem to regulate our hormones somewhat.
Best wishes!
