For all you experienced users of Met I'm wondering... once you ovulate using Met what is the likelihood that you will continue to ovulate regularly? What about if you ovulate once or twice and then stall out...eventually will the met level out your hormones and make ovulation a more regular occurrence? After how long? I know this probably varies from person to person, but I'd love to hear your experiences. I've ovulated for the first time, which I am thrilled about, but wondering what is the likelihood for next month. Does anyone know if there is any scientific research on this out thiere anywhere?
My doctor has mentioned that she has had quite a few PCOS patients concieve on Met. I have not started yet because I don't want to "try" to get pregnant until the summer (my wedding is in October). She feels that Met should come first before any fertility meds (I've been with my future husband for five years and once I learned that I had PCOS we stoped using contraceptives - four years ago - and no baby so infertility is a definate problem for me). I do have slightly elavated insulin levels (18), but that is on the atkins diet (on which I lost 45 pounds!).
Em,
I was on metformin for six months and had started having cycles, but I wasn't really seeing evidence of good O. Well, the doctor laid it on the line and said I needed to go low carb on top of the met. Seven weeks later, I conceived. Cycle day 28 that time. Unfortunately, my pregnancy only lasted five months. Three weeks after delivery, I started a new cycle!! Wow! Then ovulated on day 26. The next cycle, I ovulated on day 24. At this rate, I'll eventually turn into a normal woman. I think it's a matter of finding exactly what your body needs. Many cysters will not see O no matter what they do, so they start with clomid and so forth. I feel fortunate to O on my own for the first time in my life, probably. I hope it keeps up for you as your hormones heal.
Slowly but surely,
Sheri

Metformin was great for me. I ovulated on my own for the first time in years just a week after starting the metformin. Then I ovulated again about 4 weeks later. I don't know if it would have continued that way, because I got pregnant on that 2nd ovulation! I am not on metformin at the moment, but I will definitely get it again the next time we TTC!

I'm curious about Metformin and Ovulation too. However, for me it's not how many times I will ovulate, but when will I at all! I've been on Metformin for a little over month and still no ovulation. I'm sure it varies for everyone, but on average how long does it take after you start the met treatment?
