Hi ladies, I haven't been around lately, been a rather depressing week. Anyways, I have a bit of a rant here, it's kinda long sorry, but I really appreciate any of you taking the time to read through and hopefully offer me some advice... noone on any other board has answered any questions so far :-S ( Again... bad week, lol)

I'm on clomid at the moment, its the first anything I've been prescribed for PCOS, noone has mentioned anything else at all, although, I've only seen the GOOD doctor once since i was diagnosed. I had my day 21 levels done on Tuesday, they told me to call back on Thursday... so I did... sounds simple, right?? HUH!!! Stupid cow at the front desk wouldn't give me the results, and says i have to wait till my next appt., which is January the 17th.... or she can fit me in on the 15th, January that is!! Anyways... had to argue with her, explaining that I just wanted to know whether the Clomid was working. That evening there was a message on my machine basically saying, "your levels were 6.3, if you wanna know what that means, ask your doctor in January" So... first question... can any of you interpret my 6.3 progesterone?? Have I ovulated?? I was under the impression that it was supposed to be around 30 while on Clomid, so I'm really worried about continuing, if I'm ovulating, but with really low progesterone. I really couldn't handle a M/C after all of this.

The second thing is... If you haven't guessed, I'm going through the public health system at the moment for treatment, and so far.... I HATE them so much, and can't understand how these people were ever employed to do this job! Has anyone else gone through the public health route? I'm just finding it hard, I have all these questions, but not allowed to ask, I'm scared if I get pregnant, that I could avoid something terrible happening, if only I got proper care. Also, I'm not sure how far they will help me, is Clomid the end of the line for me?? Which brings me to my third question..... Private fertility treatments... I'm almost certain I can't afford them, but I was wondering how expensive it is to go the private route.... currently, we don't have any private health care, and my partner is the only one working... should I look into it, or just give up all together, and stick with the horrible doctors at the hospital (which are in the same waiting room as the antenatal visits... and they ask me EVERY time, how many weeks are you??) So, if we HAD private health insurance, would any fertility treatments be covered, or do you just pay out of pocket?? Also, if I got some, say tomorrow, how long is the waiting period before you can use it?

I appreciate ANY help you can give me here, I'm at my wits end with all of this, I feel like I have noone else to turn to.... I can't even ask my doctor till January

On a lighter note..... YAY, I love Christmas SOOO much, I'm going to pick up my Big W xmas layby on Wednesday that I put on in July, I can't even remember what I got!! lol

How was everyones weekends?? Mine.... dull and boring lol. My little brother came down from my Mum's, who lives in the Clare valley, about 2 hours North of Adelaide. So, my weekend was filled with TV and Nintendo Wii, lol. Oh... and I took my grnadma to bingo, but I didn't win :-)

sheree~ When i went the clomid route the dr told me anythign over 10 indicated Ovulation having said that SINCE u are NOT being monitored properly by the dr theres no way of telling that u Ovulated on day 14 wich means the progesterone test could've been done too early.. ID say with that figure that you did ovulate.
It BUGS THE ABSOLUTE well we wont go there when dr's of any kind weather private or public prescribe climid like lollies & dont do any other monitoring than a p4 test on cd 21. I NEVER O before cd 18 when i was on clomid & sometimes with that i needed a trigger shot. (theres a long story that goes behind my reasons for it bugging me but i dont have the time haha)
Anyways how r u going to know every mth if u did O or not if they wont give u the numbers? GRRR Anyways i am not a dr so dont quote me as gospel thats just what i can remember!! Id test when u should & if u dont get af in week test again (hahaha or everyday if ur liek me a poas addict) Hope i helped some

Hi Sheree,
I went through the public health system to conceive my first son, and I had problems with them, too. If you didn't phone between 1.30 - 2pm, they wouldn't give results out etc, etc, etc. I then tried ONE round of injections (when Liam was 2 years old) which didn't work straight away, so they told me they wouldn't help me anymore because I needed IVF and I had a child, so I didn't qualify for the public health IVF attempts. I think it's around 3 attempts that can be covered by the Public Health System, before you HAVE to go private. Anyways, I am now going private through a fertility clinic here in Perth, and while it's not cheap, it's not as horrendous as I would have thought. My initial RE appointment was $70 out of pocket, the meds are available through the PBS system so about $33 each script (around $150 for the cycle, because I take ages to respond), u/s $50 first one then no charge the rest of the cycle. It was costing me about $250 per cycle. Do you have a Health Care Card? If so, meds will be cheaper. BUT having said all of that, I am doing IUI now which is $759 out of pocket for the cycle. As for the private health insurance, you'd be hit up under the existing ailment ruling, which eliminates ANY fertility cover for 12 months. When I looked at HBF, they didn't cover IVF for 2 years, but shop around on the internet, because they all have their waiting periods etc.
By the way, with progesterone of 6.8, I would say you possibly had a weak ovulation or as Hayles said, they tested too early. Weak O can also be fixed by using a trigger shot, anyway, which isn't great, but isn't totally horrible, either.
I don't know if anyone else knows this, but everybody can register for the Medicare Safety Net, so once your out of pocket expenses hit $1000, you can get 80% back from Medicare. ie my IUI is $759 out of pocket, but because we've hit the threshold, I got back $608. So, EVERYBODY, PLEASE KEEP YOUR RECEIPTS AND REGISTER WITH MEDICARE FOR THE SAFETY NET!!!
As for me, my oestrogen levels have finally decided to rise, so we will be doing IUI some time this week. Cross fingers for me, please.
Love to all,
Gina xxx

Hayles and Gina.... Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Seriously, I'm so grateful for you both for taking the time and replying. Thats more than the nurses and doctors are doing for me at the moment... so THANK YOU soooo much.

I've found a website for an Adelaide fertility clinic, called Repromed, so I think what i will do is wait till january, see whether the doctor will further my treatment, and if they're still being lacklustre about things, I'll book in to see someone.

Oh, another quick question... if I have O'd, but a weak one, is it possible next cycle might be stronger, being the second Clomid attempt???

Thanks girls, you've really made my day!! I'm feeling a lot better bout things :-0

Sheree - If they up the Clomid, that may help you ovulate. My RE doesn't like to work wih Clomid too much, as she has better results with injectibles.

Ok... so I've made an appointment with Repromed, they were upfront with their fees, so I'm stoked about that. I couldn't get in any earlier than January 18th, the day after my hospital visit... if the doctor at the hospital offers to up my Clomid dosage, I will go straight to Repromed and start treatment with them. I don't think I could handle 3 more months of no contact, and especially if it's not working anyway. If the doctor has anything better, then I'll stick with the hospital, and put up with the crappy nurses lol.

One of the ladies I spoke to at Repromed put me through to a nurse who explained my progesterone results too, which was very helpful, they were awesome. I hadn't O'd by the day i had the test, they want to see a level of over 17 if your on CLomid to confirm ovulation.

All in all, I'm feeling much better about things, I'm really excited about January!!

So.... sorry bout the takeover of the forum... Now back to our scheduled programming :-)

Sheree, I'm glad you got some good advice from everyone. I share the frustration re doctors/clomid/public health etc. I'm glad you got your appointment with the private clinic, at least you have a backup option now.

My first experience with clomid was following a miscarriage - being told to take it, then get the CD 21 blood test. Of course, I didn't O that time, but when I eventually did that cycle (something like CD130!) it was a really really strong level (about 73). AND I only knew that I'd ovulated cos I'd started temping by that time and figured to go back for the P4 test 7 days after my extremely late ovulation - I didn't even bother trying to explain to my dr that this was still the same clomid cycle as the first test was from as he didn't even know what my progesterone level meant.

It was actually my internet research on clomid that eventually led me to Soulcysters, and it's been here that I've learnt everything I know, which unfortunately for me, is a little too much, I sometimes think (ignorance is bliss...).

Gina, that's good to know about the Medicare Safety net - I'd always heard about it but it sort of went in one ear and out the other. I'll definitely register for it.

Has anyone here tried any alternative methods for either controlling PCOS or for ttc? I'd be interested to hear any success stories. I did try acupuncture for a while when I was living over east, not sure if it helped with PCOS, but it was definitely a great stress reliever. I used to feel so calm after my sessions, and the feeling would last about a week. I'm thinking of trying to find a good acupuncturist in Perth, but of course, it's also quite expensive.

Hi ladies.
Just stopping in to say hi.
Sheree, sounds like you're on the right track. I am astonished by how the nurses sound (the ones you originally called). Sometimes I think they are hesitant to give out information - just in case they get it wrong, but at the same time, it's not so hard to check with the doctor and tell you over the phone.
The fertility place in S. Australia sounds promising. If I were you, I'd go that way. It may be more expensive, but at least you can be guaranteed a great support network (plus, they monitor you all the time at these clinics, so you'd know you were getting the best treatment possible).
Hrrmmm...... I'm going through a fertility place in Perth and yes, it's very expensive, but - I also think, the rewards are well worth it all!

Hope everyone is having a great day. I'm off for another ultra sound, blood test and post coital test done tomorrow morning. Have to get up so early. GRRRRR.... I love my sleep ins.

Oh well. See ya ladies, I'll talk to you all soon. xxxxx

Sheree - Congrats on making the appointment with Repromed. Crossing fingers for you.

Katie - I haven't been doing any alternative methods for either, I'm sorry. Good luck with the u/s, bloods and PC tests tomorrow.

I had my bloods done today, and the oestrogen is still rising nicely. I'm picking IUI either Thursday or Friday. Wish me luck!!

Is anyone else getting excited about Christmas? I was, until I heard that my aunty has invited a heap of people over for Christmas lunch. It was meant to be just an immediate family gathering (still around 15), but it's expanded out to at least 23!! Help!! I know I'll still have fun, but if this IUI works, I suspect I will be utterly shattered!!!

I'm off to bed now, so love to all.
