Hope everyone here is well.

Have had some time away as my old dad died in May. He had cancer for years, and only had a prognosis of 18mths-2 years so he did brilliant to keep going as long as he did. He died at home, which was what he wanted. I saw him the day before he went, and sneakily passed him a bit of Reiki and he slept for the first time in days. Then one of the nurses came back when she was off duty also to give Reiki, and he slept the whole night and died peacefully the next day.

Anyway that's where I've been. Dad lived 150 miles away so the last few months we were driving up and down the motorway every 2 weeks, to be with him. It left us a bit exhausted and knocked for six, but if anything, I've come out the other end with my beliefs stronger. My dad had a 'deathbed' conversion to xianity - the vicar there etc but we feel it was more to comfort his wife, who is a churchgoer. The day after he'd seen the vicar, we went to see him and when my six year old said he'd been saying at school that Jesus was 'just a load of rubbish' (and my son goes to a C of E school! eek!) my dad laughed and said *You stay that way. Always say what you think.* which sort of signalled to me he just made his peace with that god to be a big comfort to his wife, who he loved very much.

He had a full church funeral service and the church was packed to the back pew - I never saw anything like it. Full choir, the works. The vicar was a bit of a prat - I could see why my dad had never liked him. But at least he got a proper send off. Something about the whole thing was a bit strange but my dad was of the generation where all that was expected, and I'm sure he would have had a good laugh!

I'm new here & have been throughly enjoying this thread.

PollySis, I'm so sorry about your father. I lost my dad 12 years ago & I still miss him. But I still feel his spirit with me & think that he would be happy with the life I have made for myself.

I am very happy to have found this thread! Do we have a pagan mommy thread, or is this the only one?

It's always wonderful to see threads like this!

I'm a proud pagan and have been since the 7th grade I'm currently a First Degree Priestess and I'm working on my Second Degree. I can also help in answering any questions

Not that I know of, but it would be nice to have, wouldn't it? I think we have a lot of unique needs and situations.

While I haven't read this thread in its entirety, are there those of use who dabble in Witchcraft, not Wicca? Or what are people's paths? If they are willing to share that is!

I'm most definitely not a wiccan! It's hard to categorise what I believe but I don't believe in the Rede, and I don't even like those terms 'black' and 'white' re. witchcraft.

Black and White is a Wiccan notion. I am, what I consider, a Nocturnal Witch. I practice both day and night, but feel a calling from the darker side of life to maintain a sort of balance. There is not Black magic or White magic, nor is there any type of Gray magic - it all has to do with Intent. From my point of view, everything you do can upset the Balance in Nature, and therefore while some practice on the "Bright Light" side of things, I pull from all aspects. This does not mean I practice cruelty, but am more open to preventative measures should the need arise.

I have a heavy draw from Norse Mythology, but practice mainly under Gaia. I am not a Wiccan, as I do not follow the Rede, the Rule of Three, nor do I need certain tools to practice. Witchcraft is more along the lines of energy, not ritual (in my mind). We don't call the guardians, we don't cast circles, as to us, the entire world is sacred and ready for use. Why cleanse what is already suitable for use?

I'm just a solitary eclectic Pagan. I don't practice Wicca or Witchcraft - I follow more of a devotional path than a magical one.

I'm a solitary practitioner. I take my knowledge from all aspects of Paganism, Wiccan and otherwise. I feel a strong connection to Celtic mythology. I am initiated as a First Degree Priestess in a Faery tradition, but I'm not required to follow any 'rules' by this tradition so I still carry on with my education as I choose.

I do follow many of the Wiccan aspects such as the casting of circles and such because I believe it adds to the psychological effects of the rite and therefore enhances my intent. I whole-heartedly agree with Rae that it is all about intent.
