Unhappy Pain Management?

I am struggling with my pain management of my cyst pains and am wondering what you ladies use to control the pain. I started struggling with large recurring cysts (nothing under 5cm) last year and have used Darvocet for pain management as well as being on metformin and BCP... to no avail. At the last appt on Thursday, I was prescribed Vicodin to relieve pain and hold out until the surgery... the pain gets subdued, but it still drives me crazy on the Vicodin- not to mention that it makes me groggy and clumsy. Is it weird that I can take my pulse by gently pushing on the area that hurts? What meds or other methods helped you with pain management?

Quick history (I'll have to figure out how to put this in my siggy):
Diagnosed at 19 with PCOS... awaiting laparoscopic surgery to find out if I have endo as well. At last count (a month ago) I have 9 small cysts on right ovary and one 6x7 cm cyst on my left ovary that is blocking the view of anything else on that side...
