I've since been taking Prozac to help with the anxiety and stopped drinking caffeine of any sort. I've been heart palp free for over a year.

You could also try some OTC remedies. Valerian root specifically is used to help with anxiety. However, it can make you drowsy so use it carefully. I personally did turn to medication which has helped me. But I also like alternative methods of healing as well. I hope this helps! Please feel free to PM me if you need someone to talk to!

My Mood: Points: 3,356.03 Bank: 364.08 Total Points: 3,720.11 | I have Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) which I think 10 to 12 % of people have but most don't know they have it. They diagnosed me with MVP when I was having anxiety attacks when I was a teenager. I guess it can be severe or not noticeable at all. Mine is only really noticeable some times--like my heart will skip a beat or will flip flop around (it feels like that) ..even beat really hard for a minute or so. Or could just be an anxiety attack. But my MVP was actually causing my panic attacks at the time because I would freak out every time it did that.

My Mood: Points: 13,569.08 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 13,569.08 | I have heard MVP is related to INsulin resistance therefore PCOS...
It is common as you said and people with MVP tend to have
a) Longer arms
b) Double jointed
c) More likely to have curvature of spine if even only slightly.....
I haev all that.. and to make matters worse lately I have been having palpitations... but I was not feeling anxious at the time and my heart was beating fast like i had been running...it was weird...
Not a nice feeling at all.
How could I be checked for MVP - I bet I have it. |

How could I be checked for MVP - I bet I have it. | Hey, Sarrah! Well, they did some tests on me and they discovered recently, (last year) that I am not IR. They discovered that when I was having all kinds of problems taking Metformin. They say it only works if you are IR and I wasn't. But, anyway, the way they found out I had MVP and Left Branch Bundle Block (honestly, don't have much of a clue as to what that is, only a mild heart issue that doesn't usually cause problems) was that I went to a Cardiologist and he ran an EKG or EEG. I think an EKG. I also wore a holter monitor for I think 24 hours. If you are having some wierd palpitations or just have some concerns, I am sure your GP would refer you to a cardiologist or might even could write you an order to have an EKG done somewhere. My GP can just listen to my heart now and hear the MVP without having to do any further testing.

My Mood: Points: 1,211.43 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,211.43 | I've been having these too. I wondered if it was related to IR, which I haven't been tested for. Mind seem to show up after I eat carbohyrates, and when I avoid them, go away. But sometimes I can't control them. The anxiety seems to come with them, not before them; it's like my body is producing anxiety and heart palpitations at the same time, and I don't really know why. |

My Mood: Points: 9,791.12 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 9,791.12 | I use to have this frequently and it has drastically slowed down since I eliminated stress. The most helpful thing I did was once every hour, close my eyes, imagine a beautiful place and hold the image in my mind while I took 5 deep breaths into my belly. It takes less than a minute to do and was hugely calming for me. I set my cell phone alarm to ring every hour so I was reminded. Breathing into your belly is our natural way of breathing, but when we get stressed we take shorter breath into our chest only, and some people even hold there breath without even realizing it (I'm one of these).
You might also want to track when it happens, maybe there is something triggering it that you don't recognize automatically.. maybe write down the time it happened, what you were doing & thinking about, what you ate earlier, etc
Also, make sure you go to the Dr and get checked out, especially since PCOS increases your likely hood of cardiac problems |

The reason I ask is, I never had problems with anxiety/heart palpitations until I took Yasmin (worst mistake of my life). So if you are taking any meds, check out the possible side effects. Just a thought...
