Question Panic attacks on relaxing holidays ??

Hello Cysters

I was suffering from panic attacks due to complicated situations in my life. I recently started to know how to control them, I am taking fish oil which has helped really a lot, and the panic attacks are now much more sporadic.

However, recently we took a week of holidays at the beach, after a very stressful time and I found myself having constant feelings of panic even if this was a very relaxing time. I was confused since at home, even in the most stressful days, I was able to fall sleep and no panic attacks, and suddenly in my holidays I was getting this heavy feeling in my chest, cold sweat, fear of a hearth failure.... you know.

I came back home and from the time I have gotten back, no more panic attacks....

Is there any situation that can relate as to why I was having constant panic attacks while on a relaxing, enjoyable holiday ? would that be the stress finally going out of my body because it was finally relaxing ? any comments ?

Thanks to you all !!

Hi There,
I am a fellow panic-attack sufferer, and I believe it is quite common for attacks to happen during times of relaxation. Once you finally slow down, all the anxiety you have been supressing with your busy lifestyle rears its ugly head.

This has definitely happened to me in the past.

Like you, my panic is mostly under control now due to Celexa and Metformin.

Just wanted you to know, you're not alone in this experience.

Yup thats how it was for me. Times when I finally got to relax and was watching TV or reading or just doing whatever one would come on. Hugs! I have to take medicine to prevent them or they are just unbearable. I also have learned breathing techniques which help some but not enough.

Thanks for your responses, Kim, nice to hear from you !!

I also did go with a doctor who told me that most of the panic attack problems were related to the fact that we "do not breathe well". He noticed I am a toraxic breather, and he says that we should breathe with the stomach. Meaning that the stomach must go up and down and the air has to go all the way inside and outside.

He says this helps a lot. I try to do it but sometimes I use this technique when the panic attack is already very noticeable, so it does not help a lot. I guess relaxation, sticking with fish oil and met, and knowing how to control them is the only way to go...

By the way I visited GNC and noticed natural pills which have a special vitamin for the brain and it says it helps with anxiety and panic attacks... may be getting one depending on the results of my 2ww and if my Ob/Gyno says it is safe to take.

Hugs !!
