Unhappy Paps Mear--Atypical cells---anything to do with PCOS?

Hi girls--I just got a call from my OB that my pap smear came back positive for atypical cells. I have to go back for a repeat pap in 6 months. I hate to wait 6 months bu..... I was curious if this is common for women with PCOS?
I have been treated (LEEP) for severe pre-cancer ~ 6 years ago now and well...then I did not know I had PCOS but....as it turns out I have always had it just was not diagnosed.
Thanks for your input!!

I have had atypical pap smears before - especially when it have been a LONG stretch between cycles (5 / 6 months).

However, it would be best to get checked again.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck.

I had a recent abnormal pap. My doctor restested me a week later and everything was normal. So I don't know if it has to do with Pcos or not? I had to have cryosurgery back in 94 due to pre-cancerous cells so I am always scared to get my paps done.
Seems like if it was serious they would have done another Pap on you immediately! Good Luck and Best Wishes.

hi courtney,

If you have a history of precancerous cells, I would get on the phone with the nurse at the office and tell them, make sure they did not overlook that info in your chart! I had atypical cells before and had a biopsy at 18. mine was neg for papilloma, and precancerous tissue though. But if you have a history of precancerous lesions, be safe and get tested again! Your doc should understand why you want a retest, and be happy to accomodate you. Best of luck

I had a series of abnormal paps when I was 18 or so. I had biopsies (negative) and a cryocautery, after which it all came back fine. I was told it was due to a bacterial infection.

I just got diagnosed with A-typical pre-cancer cells. I was told by my gyno this was typical with PCOS patients as you can go for months without a proper lining shedding.

Good luck and stay in touch, I understand how you feel.
