This is just a small warning to those of you on Met XR. I have been taking met since April. Last week I started having bad diarrhea every morning. I was passing the pills taken the night before!! Since this is an extended release drug I felt something wasn't right. My pharmacy had switched generic brands and I wasn't tolerating the pills. My pharmacist switched me back to the old brand and all is well again. I just wanted to let you all know that all generics are not the same.

I don't know about the change in brand, but I've heard several times on here that the XR capsule is always passed in the stool. It doesn't seem to mean anything is wrong with it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Of course the game is rigged. Don't let that stop you--if you don't play, you can't win.
yes with the extended release you should be passing the "shells" of the pills that is completely normal but it is actually just the outside part of the pill, that what allows it to be extended release because your body has to digest part of the pills which takes longer ie extended release instead of the pills dissolving all at once, if you read the paper that comes with the meds it says pod looking things will pass in stool
Maybe so, but this was the only time I had that happen and it hasn't happened since.
Hi Mojo,
This happens to me often. The first time it happend I sat there trying to figure out what in the world is it. I thought about everything that I had eaten over the last couple of days and then. I read the leaflet that came with the Rx and found out that was what it was.
Met is in a formation called a wax matrix. It is kind of like a wet sponge, and the met is the water squeezed out of it and what is passed is the sponge. It is totally normal to see the pills in your stool. My mother is a pharmaceutical sales rep and one of her customers told her this explanation of how met is absorbed and passed.
