Default patches on skin where you are missing pigment?

Hey Girls!

My Mom has this disease it starts with a "v" and she has spots, mostly on her arms where her skin is like copy paper white, where she is missing pigment in her skin. Well, I just found that I also have some spots, above my right eye. I'm just wondering if anyone else has this? I can't believe I can add this to the list of things that are wrong with me! HA!

its called Vitiligo, I was diagnosed with it around age 7 or 8 and it spread even more. Its all on the left side of my body and I had to go and have ultra violet light treatments which gave me 3rd degree burns..so I stopped..but it also seemed to either stop or slow down the spread of my Vitiligo. And yes it is very hereditery, my Grandfather started getting it after I did (but obviously he had it in him before me, who passed the gene on) and now both his hands are white, my mom has it and my cousin on that side has it pretty bad on his back. All you can do is cover it with makeup or self tanner, and sometimes that doesnt take. If it spreads to more then 50% of your body then doctors allow you to choose if you want a "irriversable whitening cream" and that will take the rest of pigment off your body for the rest of your life. I'm lucky and only have it on about 3 or 4% of my body..

hi

My mum has this too. All over her thighs - and a little on her face.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. Since I just discovered this, it's been kinda scary!
