A Patient's Guide to PCOS: Understanding--and Reversing--Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
[coverattach=1]by Walter Futterweit, George Ryan
A comprehensive guide to polycystic ovary syndrome, from a leading authority on the condition
One in ten American women of childbearing age is affected by polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to some degree, and many suffer from serious symptoms, such as infertility, early miscarriage, chronic pelvic pain, weight gain, high blood pressure, acne, and abnormal hair growth. PCOS is by far the most common hormone imbalance in women of this age group, yet few women understand the threat it poses to their health—or how to prevent it.
In A Patient’s Guide to PCOS, Dr. Walter Futterweit, a foremost authority on PCOS in America, tells women everything they need to know about this condition and how to treat it. Drawing on his twenty-five years researching and treating the condition and his ongoing long-term study of more than a thousand women with PCOS, Futterweit discusses
• what PCOS is and how it affects your body
• what to eat and how to exercise to control PCOS
• all the treatment options, including the latest drug therapies
• how to reverse PCOS-induced infertility and restore
healthy skin and hair
• resources for preventing, diagnosing, and treating PCOS
This comprehensive guide contains everything women need to know about PCOS—from identifying warning signs and seeking a diagnosis to finding emotional support in recovery—to regain their health and resume their lives.

I read this book just a little while after being DX. I had so many questions, the book seemed to answer all of them and I couldn't put it down. It's extreemly informative, and while being realistic it's also opptomistic.
This book is informative and gave examples, really broke most things down clearly! answered alot of questions. It also gave all options treatments and told about each. It gave all symptoms and told about each

Reason: read the book!
My husband actually purchased this book. He has started reading it... while I started reading another book (simply for pleasure... good series of books called Twilight Sage). Needless to say I have read the whole series of books, and he is still reading this one!! LOL Whenever he finishes it, I will read!!
If this book has information on "Reversing", Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, I sure missed it! It does contain the basic information about managing PCOS - pretty much the same as several other of the better books on PCOS. I have read a few books on PCOS - I think the two best are the "PCOS: The hidden Epidemic" (Dr Thatcher) and "The Savvy Woman's Guide to PCOS" (Dr Vliet).
I have to admit that I purchase this book because of the word "Reversing" in the tile and because it was written by a doctor - for me Dr. Futterweit book was a bit of a disappointment. That is not to say that it does not contain good information - I think that all women with PCOS ought to read/own at least one good book on PCOS, preferably one written by a medical doctor - this book would certainly fit the bill - but if you already have read one or more books on PCOS, I am not really sure that reading this book will add anything. And again, in the end, I found the use of the word "Reversing" in the title rather misleading - I think a better word would have been "Managing".
I was just diagnosed and bought this book the next day. Spent the weekend reading it. I found it very helpful in explaining things, especially for a first newbie.

I agree! Being a newbie this is a great introduction to what PCOS is, terms associated with the diagnoses, an overview of treatment, and suggested dietary changes that may help to reverse the diagnoses. Though I must say the newbie area/handbook or whatever you call it on this site was equally as informative in my opinion. Though if you are like me... you like to have something in your hands! I think it is worth a read through ... especially for a newbie!
I have this book too.
It is good for a beginner book to answer basic questions. Every once in a while I refer back to it when I'm in a new stage of my treatment, but in general I know just about everything in this book already.
