Default Paxil

My DH is on Paxil for his....severe mood swings - and I have to admit that things are looking a lot better. He started getting them after we both quit smoking when I found out I was pg, about 2 years ago now. The dr. prescribed Paxil to him about 4 months ago.

Just recently, we have noticed that he is unable to "complete his mission" when we are doing the deed. Is there another medicine that he can take that doesn't have this as a side-effect? I'm afraid this is going to making doing the deed even more undesirable for him than it already is.

Default I was just to the Dr on Wednesday

I was on Lexapro (for anxiety and mood swings)...which I liked...but he thought maybe if I changed over to Effexor XR I might be about to lose some weight that I have gained. Anyways, with Lexapro I did not experience any sexual side effects....I told the Dr that and he told me that I shouldn't with Effexor XR either.

Don't know if that helps you or not...of course I am a woman and your hubby is a man!! LOL!

Default Re: Paxil

Rusoman, this is one of the most incredibly irritating, annoying and maddening side effects of some of the anti-depressants. One of the most common, too. I had that problem on Paxil, and so do a LOT of people I've known who've been on it, or other SSRIs.

One minute, everything's going great, the next, zappo, the feeling is completely gone and it's not coming back. It's got something to do with chemical changes from nitrates to nitrites or some such obscure explanation that the drug messes with. But whyever it happens, it's a total miserable experience.

Tell the doc about it. One of the other SSRIs or antidepressants might not have the same side effect. And sometimes, Wellbutrin is added to whatever you're taking and it fixes the problem. And sometimes, this side effect goes away after a couple weeks or months. It did for me. But I quit Paxil 'cause it was making me sweat like a dog!
