Hey Sarah---
Don't mean to scare you with my response but I wish someone would have warned me!! I was on Paxil 20mg for 5 years through my family doc. I tried to go off by decreasing gradually, down to 10, then 5, then off. I end up with dizzineness, fainting, tingling in my hands and feet, and nausea. I was not able to go to work or anything. So I immediately went back on the Paxil b/c I honestly could not withstand the side effects. I talked to a psychiatrist at my work about it and here is what he said: Paxil is one of the harder antidepressants to come off for some (not all) people. It has something to do with the chemical half life, like it leaves your system quickly, so you feel the effects of coming off it right away, as opposed to some meds that leave your system slowly. He told me to
1. go down to 10mg Paxil
2. start Prozac 10mg take them both together for 1 week
3. stop the Paxil
4. continue the prozac for a week
5. taper off the prozac.
It sounds crazy but it worked like a charm. I think the prozac blocks the s/e of the paxil. I don't mean to rag on Paxil either, it was the wonder drug for me and totally cured my depression. Try going off, but if you have problems, check into doing it the way I did. You can message me if you want more info.
