Question Paxil stop working??

Hi there-

Has anyone experienced a recurrance of symptoms after a few years on Paxil?

I take 30 mg for anxiety but lately my symptoms have been coming back (although much less severe) and I think I am depressed...I am not sure if I just need to up my dosage or need another drug?

Anyone had this experience?

TIA!

I am currently taking Paxil, and although I haven't been taking it as long as you have, I do know that with most drugs, including SSRIs like Paxil, the drugs effectiveness has only been tested usually for less than a year. If it were me that this were happening to, I would go and talk with my doctor about possibly raising the dosage or switching to another drug like you had mentioned. Sorry that I don't have a more definitive answer for you. Good luck

I had taken Paxil on and off for the past 6 years. This past winter, I felt like it had stopped doing the trick even though I was un 30mg. I (FOOLISHLY) stopped taking it and went into an even deeper depression.

I am now on Celexa, 30mg, and it deems to be working well for me. I think your body my become resistant to the meds after a while.

Good luck!

Hi there!
I was on Paxil for four years, and it stopped working for me. 30mg was my usual dose. It had done wonders for me and then just seemed to 'poop out' (believe it or not, doctor's actually use that term!) I tried upping the dose and just got more lethargic and more side effects. So I've had to try various other AD's since then.
I don't think they quite know why that sometimes these drugs lose their effect....sometimes it happens, and sometimes it doesn't. The good news is, like oohmercyme, sometimes switching to a similar med will help again. Or yes, raising the dose of the one you're on. I was on Paxil for depression as well as anxiety. Right now I'm on my third week of Prozac, it seems to be working to some extent anyway.
The best thing you can do is talk to your doctor about it. And do it as soon as possible, I know how awful anxiety is! You can get so frustrated, but don't give up!

Thanks for the insight, Ladies. I am going to make an appointment with my Dr. and see what can be done!

Take care!
