Is it PCOS? I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS. I've got an appointment with my GYN in 3 weeks (earliest they could get me in... *sigh*) and while I know that only she can actually tell me if what's going on with me is PCOS, I'm curious as to whether or not I should even ask about it given my symptoms.
Before I started BCP I used to get my period every 6-10 weeks (once as long as 4 months between periods). My period has never been regular (started @ 13, I'm now 23). I'm now on Camila (I think it's progesterone only--I get migranes and my dr said that normal BCP could cause me to have a stroke). The thing is, I've been on this for about 4 or 5 months now, and for the past 3, I've been getting my period every 2 weeks (roughly). They're now extremely heavy for the first 3 days and then really light for another 3-4 days. And accompanied by the worst cramps I've ever had--absolutely debilitating.
I get skin tags. Never very many. A few on my neck, shoulders and stomach. And I never really thought about them until I started reading about PCOS.
Not only that but since puberty I've been rather "hairy" (thank god I'm blond!)--kids used to tease me about my "moustache" and ridiculously hairy arms in middle school. As I've gotten older the hair on my chin and the underside of my jaw has gotten longer and denser. That, and I "shed like a beast"--the hair on my head is constantly falling out in large quantities. I have to clean out my shower every day so it doesn't get clogged after 3 showers.
Other than that... I'm overweight currently, but my weight goes up and down and up and down. I regularly drop 20-40 pounds in a month or two--with more or less no effort--and then put it back on as easily as it came off.
I'm sure it's all nothing, all coincidence, and that the doc's just going to change my pill and tell me to lose some weight (because losing weight is the answer to all medical problems, right?). I'd just like to know what people with PCOS think. Does this sound familiar? Should I bother bringing it up to my doc?
Thanks in advance |
