My Mood: Points: 798.97 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 798.97 | PCOS and Abnormal paps Has anyone seen any connection between PCOS and abnormal paps? When I was younger I started getting abnormal paps (low grade pre-cancerous), got them for about a year, then they went away. All my paps now are normal. So I guess I'm asking.. Who all has had abnormal paps, and now has PCOS? CZ |

Points: 2,108.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,108.26 | I had 2, my first 2 actually. I had my first one just before I was married so about 3 years ago now. They said it was "abnormal" and said don't worry about it, it could just be blood cells (about a week after my period ended), the lady was rude to me and I didn't want to go back to check, not that she said to, but I didn't. A year later, had one done and it was "abnormal" but then I had no insurance when they called me back to do it again. Wanted to, they bugged me about it like it was serious, but couldn't afford it! Had one a year later when I finally got insurance again (in June 07) and heard nothing about it so I assumed it was normal. Called them for Met prescription and they said nothing either, so I guess normal?
What does "abnormal" mean on a pap? I guess I hadn't really though about it being something terrible after the last one was fine. |

Tammyjo- I would call and ask! It can't hurt and would make you feel better. Remind them of your past with abnormals! GL |

(I quit in August of this year) we'll see what happens. He said that the combination of HPV and smoking made me have abnormal paps.

My Mood: Points: 1,057.39 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,057.39 | I had two abnormal paps. Once was when I was 20, no unprotected sex. They did a repeat two weeks later and it was normal.
The second was 9 years later (3 years ago). They tested and said it was HPV. They did a biopsy, burned off the cells and I've had 3 clear tests ever since.
The thing is, I've been asked if the CM was "normal" for me. Never had a yeast infection, just a lot of creamy CM (sorry TMI). Funny thing is, nobody ever throught to run b/w until I was TTC and couldn't get pg.

About 70 to 80% of the population have HPV so I wouldn't worry about it, it any one tests positive.
Sometimes the "slight abnormal" result comes becuase of HPV then a lot of the time especially afer age 30 - the immune systmes gets rid of the HPV (even though some say its with you for life), alot of women testing positive in earlier years , say in 20's,, after 30 or 35, always get normal and negative to HPV after a few years. The body kind of rids itself of it.
Thats not to say you should not have regular papsmears every year or 2 years..but an slight abnormal and testing positive for HPV is not something to worry too much about as long as you continute to have the REGULAR papsmears for your peace of mind.
Not all HPV causes cervical cancer only about 3 strains (usually NOT the ones which cause visible warts). However 99% of cervical cancer patients test positive for HPV so it definately something that causes the cells to become abnormal and go on to become cancerous but not in all people. Non smokes and being very heatlhy can reduce your chances of getting this cancer and having papsmears to catch things early if they do happen as somepeople are more prone to getting cancers even if they are healthy and do not smoke. |

Apparently the repeat must have been ok because they have not called. He also tested for HPV this time, which I also assume is negative since the nurse hasnt called. I have a follow-up appointment next week. |

Every pap I had (starting at age 15) was abnormal UNTIL I started having sex at age 20. Ever since then, they're normal.
Go figure.
