Hi, about 3 years ago I stopped the the pil (diana-35) and decided to get an IUD. After I got this I started gaining weight like crazy and it was impossible to get it off. I also did not get any menstrual flow at all after that. About a year ago I started getting small weird symptoms like mild acne, more hair grow, big belly, etc. (wich at that point I didn't really think anything bad about). Then like about a half year ago I started to get pain in my left bodom abdomen. So after a few months of visiting doctors and getting ultrasounds I decided to get my IUD removed so othe pain would go away. After the IUD was removed the pain stayed and didn't go away. After getting fed up with it I decided to get another ultrasound done (monday,12-'06) because I thought I might have a cyst. The ultrasounds came out just fine nothing wrong with me. By putting all my symptoms together I found out about the PCOS, all my symptoms turn to the PCOS. I am probally getting blood test done next week. What my question and point really is do any of you think that my IUD screwed up my body by having no menstrual flow at all and led to PCOS??? Does anyone else have experience or info. with this at all? Please let me know.
Thanks
I think it is more likely that you being on the pill controlled your symptoms and you only began to see them once you stopped taking it.
Good luck.

My guess is that Diane-35 was hiding what was going on with you. I know I had PCOS before I was on the pill, except the blood work was all boarderline. When I came off of it years later- PCOS had shown up with a vengence. Sounds like IUD was just an innocent bystander...
ive had my mirena iud for 2 half years . I thought that the hormones of the mirena stayed in the womb not all over the body. My pcos got worse when i was on bcp years before that.

I don't think the IUD caused your PCOS, I'd be more inclined to follow what the other ladies have said as far as your being on BCP masked all the symptoms before. IUD can stop your period though, or make them significantly lighter so thats probally what the deal is ther!

What you describe sounds like elevated Testosterone levels. That is what caused most of my symptoms of PCOS. Please make sure that your blood tests include checking your testosterone levels. I never had insulin problems. When I went off the pill, I noticed the symptoms became much more severe. There are medications to help lower your testosterone levels. Good luck.
