Question PCOS and bipolar disorder

Within this past month, I was just recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder. I suffer from manic episodes as well as social phobia due to biopolar. My family and boyfriend find it very hard to cope with me sometimes, but more importantly i find it hard to cope with myself. I can't help but wonder if there is a tie between our PCOS and our bipolar - hormones have to play a huge role in this, don't you think?

Let me know your thoughts on this topic!

I very much agree as I have both as well. When you think about it:

Hormones in birth control can upset or worsen bipolar
While
Mood Stabilizers for bipolar (Depakote) can cause or worsen PCOS.

Seem they are intertwined.

I was diagnosed as Bipolar when I was 17. I no longer carry that diagnosis but I do have mood swings and what not due to hormones. When I didn't have a period for 4yrs I felt pretty good emotionally. However when my periods came back I had to be hospitalized because I became an emotional basket case.
I was just diagnosed with PCOS this month. Now it all makes sense lol. I started to have emotional stability problems at 13. When my hormones are in sync so are my emotions and behavior. So just know that hormones can play a huge role.

I had one manic episode almost 14 years ago, and was diagnosed bipolar. I have not had another manic episode since, nor have I had any periods of depression. I was on lithium for a few years, until I started fertility drugs. The Doctor that prescribed it was not convinced I was bipolar. I know my moods are tied into the pcos. I am on metformin now, and have had a regular period for almost four years, other than when I was pregnant, of course. When I was in highschool, I would go months and months with no period, have weeks of deep depression, and then get my period. My mother and I both felt the depression was tied into the periods, but no doctor would believe us. I wasn't diagnosed with PCOS until I was 24. Then, I was on the pill for four years, with no depression. I went off the pill, lost weight, and had my period on my own. The manic episode happened after I was off the pill for a year. When my PCOS is under control, so is my "bipolar".
