Question Pcos Blood Tests!!! Pleaze Wb

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to ask about the blood tests I have written in b4 explaining how all my family have excess hair and pot bellies but none of us have been tested ... I've started to get really into looking up and reading on here about pcos and its helping me build up the courage to get tested ( I am very scared and a little embarrsed). Anyways about a week ago I did get tested for chronic tiredness some of my tests have shown up like the liver ect they are all fine and i have a really high (like xtra high for girls) iron level (but my doctor did say this was good?) anyways the tests for the viruses etc chronic tirdness have not come back yet... in the other tests if something had come up showing pcos would the doctor had said something or not ( cause she wasnt lookingh 4 it) I am going to get a pap smear done in about a week if anything abnormal shows up will she say anything then as well? ( do u think anyways hehe) BUt me and my sista have been talking and we think we might go see like a gyno together to make it a little more comfotable? as i want to have kids one day thats what i am stressing about the most... as well as scared of getting overweight and getting more hair lol sorry this was sooo long please please WB ASAP

p.s do they ask to see your whole body when you go show symptons?

i could be wrong but i think you need to be specific, i went to gp about the excess hair etc and they tested hormones related to that problem which came back showing PCOS, if you are tired they are maybe testing for thyroid etc so wont look for the other stuff. Just go for it, it is hard to do , took me years but it was over and done with quickly and a week later i had my answer and could make my choices.

If you are really embarrassed or scared to approach it with your normal doc I would suggest finding a gyno who specializes in infertility, they see it all the time and have dealt with worse even. It makes it much easier to approach them when you know they have experience with it. Not all gp's know about pcos or will even entertain the idea that it exists, infertility doc's are well versed in pcos.

It would be best to see an Endocrinologist. PCOS is not just a fertility problem. If that is your main concern, an Endocrinologist can help you too. They know exactly what to test you for.
When I saw an Ob/Gyn for my PCOS she put me on the pill and sent me on my way.
It's great that you are reading about it first, you'll be ready for your appointment.
When I first saw my Endo she asked to see my back and stomach, neck and she looked closely at my facial hair growth. I didn't have to remove any clothes. The sooner you get treatment the better. Good luck.

Thanx for these replies they have been very very helpful ... yer i actually did think about going to see a gyno as alot of people on here say thats where they go I live in newcastle australia so I looked up a site check it out http://www.nufw.com.au/index.htm
The site name is newcastle ultra sound but it says that they also do alot of other woman/girls problems so check it out and tell me what you think? But It also says you need a referral from your gp what should I tell the doctor I needed a referal for if I am too embarrased to tell my doctor?
