This is going to sound so stupid but sometimes I wonder if there were like a PCOS treatment facility where we were forced to eat low-carb, excercise properly, have low-stress, take our vitamins, drink our 8 cups of water, get our proper sleep etc what the result would be. I am not saying I think it would be a cure but I just wonder...so many people make these little changes and get results. It would just be nice to see the statistics and results. I think we really overlook some of the simpler things.

oh, how I wish that were true! I think we would all be on the waiting list for that place. I read somewhere that losing as little as 5% of your weight can help to lessen the effects of PCOS and all of it's not so great symptoms...easier said than done, I know. *sigh* right now, I'm trying to make simple, small changes...like wearing a pedometer everyday and seeing if I can go a little further than I did the day before...it's amazing how such a small device can make you want to be more active.
There are plenty of facilities that provide what you suggest. I think it would be a bit much to 'force' someone to eat low carb, and hang over them to drink 8 glasses of water, but there 'are' residential bootcamps that provide structure for healthy living - and plenty of them.

How would one go about finding such place? I'm one of those people that watch biggest loser wishing I could be on the dang show; or at least work out w/ those trainers for a month or more! I do feel as though it would help DH to be there too. He seems to be the one that I end up falling back down with. He doesn't see how the little changes need to happen.
I have a hard time working out on my own!!!! I tried a various amount of exersize reg. and now I think I'm going to join the YMCA - the problem being that I have a major anxiety issue!

Can you do this for yourself at home? Set your cell phone to remind you to drink water & take your vitamins. Getting the junkie food out of the house and only bringing in the low carb, low GI good for you stuff. Turn the tv off and go to bed at a decent hour? Investigating stress management techniques?
I too love the idea of having other people do all the thinking and discipline for me, that would be awesome, but in the end I would walk away and not have built those skills in myself for the long run... but it might be a good foundation to build on... for me the appeal is the appearance of someone else doing it for me so I can just go along for the ride and not really participate...
The last few months or so I have been doing this for myself. I started with making sure I took my medications and supplements each day (I have a pill box that any senior citizen would envy). That also encouraged getting water in because there was a lot to swallow. After that was mastered (about a month later), and a talk with a great ob/gyn, I started Atkins and that has been great, and much easier than I thought (yes, the first week is rough, but the first week of ANY diet is rough because you have to make changes, I don't like changes ) Now, about a month later, I'm adding in the fitness and I'm struggling to get it figured out but it is the first week and again I'm having to make changes. The cool thing is that I did it, on my own, because I want it so badly... I finally have a strong internal desire to treat myself properly.
You can build that kind of program for yourself, but the timing has to be correct for you and your circumstances.
What you want is a 'residential weight loss camp/spa'. There are many around the country. I'm about to run out to get dinner, but when I get back I'll post links.
Just so you won't get sticker shock, I'm going to warn you IN ADVANCE that these places are PRICEY, plus you have to take off from work...
To be honest, for the money, you could hire a personal trainer 2x per day and hire a personal chef (or go on JC or NS), for THREE months, and spend less than you would at one of those camps. (Plus you could keep your job.)
*really?!?! Are they THAT expensive?!?!
In my opinion? yes. (And I'm not talking about the swanky ones...I'm just talking about your basic weight loss camps.)

Hehehe - so do I! It's got extra compartments and a locking mechanism so my DS doesn't get into it. He watches me take my supplements and then mimics the "throw the pills in your mouth and toss your head back to gulp them down" action I do. Cracks me up every time. Cheers, Dianna

I joined my local Y at the suggestion of Welshgirl. I love it!
Why not also join us over at Fitcysters. Most of us are finding it much easier to stick to working out since we're all kind of doing it together, and we have a support system: http://www.FitCysters.com
(And unlike those camps, FC is free )

I'm excited to join the Y... I get a discount since I'm a student - it's only $50/year for us as long as we are FT students Now I'm just waiting for the day I get to put my notice into my job so I can have my Y days, get my school work done on time and with my flare, and just be me again!!!!

Wow I am new on here and had to see how others were attempting to lose weight. My theory is everyone who is losing the weight....well I seem to be finding their lost pounds. I am a nursing student on the brink of graduation and I have gained about 30-35 pounds while in school. KatCarney posted a link to FitCysters.com...THANKS a million. Thats just what I was looking for. Good luck to all of you!
