pcos and breastfeeding

Hello ladies! I asked this question yesterday and was directed here. I hope someone can help me with this.
I recently found out that pcos may cause low milk supply in some women. I have a 3 month old and have been breastfeeding exclusively. I did have some issues with my supply in the beginning, so I ended up getting help from and LC. I have heard that met may help low milk supply and that some doctors will recommend that breastfeeding moms stay on it. I am doing well now with the bf, but I don't want to have issues later on with it. Does anyone know anything about this. I would appreciate any advice on this matter. Thank you!

I'm BFing my 15 month old and just started back on Met. Not so much for an increase in supply (thankfully, mine's always been great) but for the fertility benefits. BFing my periods have been semi regular, but I O late (but hey, better than before which was never without clomid!) and have really short LPs.

Anyways, according to both my OB and LCs, Metformin is perfectly safe to use while BFing. And the LCs recommend it whenever they have a PCOS mom who is having trouble with her supply.

Thanks for your reply. I am on Met now along with goat's rue and fenugreek. I havenoticed an increase in my supply. My son is now going longer between feedings and sleeping through the night. I assume if he were still that hungry he would not be so calm. I'm glad I did not give up on the breastfeeding. Hopefully I will not have a problem with the next baby!
