Default PCOS but no cysts?

I am in the treatment phase for infertility. According to my FSH/LH ratio, my doctor said I have PCOS. Today when I had the u/s to check on that and my uterin lining, they said that I don't have any cysts. I thought I read somewhere that you can have PCOS without acutal cysts. Is anyone else like that?

I do have polycystic ovaries, but you're right that not all people with PCOS do. (That's actually why a lot of doctors want the name of the condition changed.)

I don't have the cysts but still have PCOS...although once I had a ruptured cyst

True -- you can be PCOS without cysts -- and I agree about getting the name of the condition changed. PCOS makes it sound like it is only about cysts, ovaries, and menses when really it is a whole body endocrine problem.

It is so hard to explain to people what PCOS is. Once they heard the term people always assume to know what it is about. I am forever explaining it!

This is why when I tell people for the first time, I use the term Stein-Leventhal Syndrome instead of PCOS. Stein-Leventhal is the actual name of the syndrome, but PCOS is what it is commonly referred to and known by.

As for the OP, I didn't have cysts until long after my diagnosis of PCOS.

I only get cysts during ovulation, and when they pop, it is extremely painful.

Is there anything specific you need help with? I can try my best to answer any questions or explain anything.

Also, there should be some links on the main page that are for Newbies and help explain a lot about PCOS.

Me too!

I didn't have my first known cyst until 2006 and I was diagnosed in 2001 at age 21. I'd had the signs all along but no one had put it all together until then.
