My Mood: Points: 801.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 801.67 | PCOS can be a lonely place... Hi,
I just joined this site after realising how alone and lost I feel after being diagnosed with PCOS last year.
I'm 22 years old and have had the most painful, irregular annoying periods since I was 13. My docter never mentioned anything to me as over the years I came to him with different symptoms I know now was the pcos. He seemed as perplexed as I when at the age of 19 I suddenly shot from 170 pounds to 230 pounds. I along with everyone else, just thought I was fat and lazy. It didn't help that I had already been diagnosed with severe depression when I was 12 yrs old. So I was a big fat blob who then started to get painful huge pimples all over my breats and thighs and my chin was soooo hairy it was no joke!
I went to a different Dr, who suspected PCOS right away and she was right I am also suffering from endometriosis.
Unfortunately in the NZ public health system things run very slowly so it has been a year since I was diagnosed but have had no treatment. I am due for a laparoscopy in November, I'm really scared.
Anyway enough of my boring history I found this site because I am feeling so lonely and isolated even though I have the most supportive family. I am worried I may never be able to have children and im just plain scared. I think talking to women who know what Im going through will help! So if you can help me to feel not so alone...
Last month I was 100Kg (220 pnds) and now I am down to 94.5Kg (210 pnds) Yay losing weight is sooo hard!!! |

You're so young to have to be putting up with this and I think you're entitled to a good cry and a pillow thump right now. At some point though you're going to realise that you are in control and that you can take control of this and beat it.
I live about as far south as you can get for an Aussie, so I'm not that far away and there are many Aussie and Kiwi cysters just like us too. You are certainly not alone and many of us have faced or are facing the same issues too.
If the Medicare system here is anything like it is there, regardless of waiting lists for surgery there are things that you can tackle and do just using your GP as far as PCOS is concerned. Read up on some of the posts on this site. Do your research decide what you need and ASK and INSIST until you get when you need.
Best,
Paula |

Heya, I know the lonely feeling. I have never met anyone with PCOS in the 'flesh'! Its not talked about so much in NZ.
What sort of treatment are you hoping for? Do you mean for PCOS or endometriosis? I've always found the squeaky wheel gets the oil. Shop around and find a doctor who is proactive. With enough complaining and the right doctor, they'll write you up a letter and its amazing how soon the higher powers can fit you in! In the mean time, maybe look into alternative treatments?

My Mood: Points: 801.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 801.67 | Thanx xoxoxo One thing I found very annoying is I was put on the combined contraceptive pill,Estelle and it worked wonders I started to lose weight and my periods were only half as painful and heavy, but I started suffering from awful migraines and my gyno dr took me off the pill so I feel like im back where I started you know, fighting a losing battle. Especially with the weight thing I lose some, get depressed eat lots and put it all back on its a horrible circle... |

My Mood: Points: 15,900.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 15,900.29 | The pill is a weird one. I remember taking the pill and feeling great for the first time in a long time and then having the migranes and eventually just bleeding that wouldn't stop, even when I took the pill. I tried several different sorts and nothing seemed to work. For some of us the pill is going to help, for others it's not going to be the cure all...
Has your Doc decided whether she's going to let you try something else? Also have you thought about whether or not you might be Insulin Resistant?
Another thing to consider that might help with the food cravings is going on a low GI diet. The Glycemic Index diet can be helpful because it helps you to feel fuller longer and your sugar levels don't spike as bad, so you don't go through that up and down craving thing.
Hang in there
