I had a hysterectomy last November, due to heavy and extremely painful menstrual cycles, which were caused by adenomyosis (a variation of endometriosis). All it has done, as the previous reply said, is stopped the bleeding and associated pain. (Which is great). I kept my ovaries, but it's important to remember that even if you have them removed (which may lead to some reduction in acne and hair problems, but there's no guarantee of that) you'll still have PCOS.
That's because PCOS is fundamentally a metabolic disorder, most frequently related to an imbalance in our production and use of insulin. As well as the weight/hair/acne hassles, IR can also cause heart disease, increased risk of stroke, and type II diabetes. A hyst. will not affect any of that.
It's also important to realise that even when our hormone levels are completely whacked, they are contributing some good things to our bodies. I don't know how old you are, but you might want to think carefully about the consequences of imposing surgical menopause on yourself at this time.
Having said all that, I haven't regretted my own hyst. for one moment. For more information and support, I highly recommend you visit
