Default PCOS on Discovery Health Channel

Last night I was channel surfing and stopped on mystery diagnosis on the discovery Health channel. It was about this little girl with a rare condition. Then I kept watching and they started talking about a woman with rapid weight gain so I kept watching since I was hoping it would be interesting. After a couple of symptoms, I realized they were talking about PCOS and when I continued watching I was right. They talked about an insulin sensiting medication but did not give the name -- bet it was metformin. I wish more shows would do more about it.
The bad thing about the show is that it focuses so much on diagnosis and hardly at all on treatment, but at least people can learn about PCOS.

I caught this show tonight and started crying!! I don't even know why. Stupid hormones. I have a question though...ya know when she was listing her symptoms and said that her hair turned into frizz when she was little? She couldn't do anything with it, like it was a brillo pad? Is that a symptom of PCOS??? Cause I had a massive frizzy fro in middle school and it's just a major coincidence if it actually is a symptom. My hair texture did improve when I went on birth control pills as a teenager, just like hers.

You know that the lady in the program is one of the ladies here. I'll have to look up her name b/c I have completely forgotten. But, she's actually a Soul Cyster.

While I was watching I was wondering the same thing...if she was a member here. My husband even mentioned it. That's really neat!

I was a fro head as well. How weird that I thought it was just me having thick unmanagable hair! Just when you think you know all the symptoms about PCOS...

I, too, was wondering if she were a cyster here. When she was using her PC on the show she had Googled PCOS and I saw the link for SoulCysters on there. My dh called me eagle eye for pausing it and checking. LOL

Hey in Alaska we actually got the same show ( Always left out up here) last night when I was channel surfing. WOnder how many of us ladies were able to guess what the diagnosis was before they even said it on the show? It gives me hope when I seen that this lady has went on to have 2 children. That is so neat. Anyways had to put my two cents in. Take care ladies. Lesia

Default Hi there gang

Thanks so much for watching the show!!!! It has been on so many time since it orignially aired in October and am thrilled it is getting around to all of you. I have never heard of frizz being a symptom of PCOS but, I certanly had a heck of a time with my hair until about age 17 when I got the IR under control.

Also, if you have on demand with youe cable company. IN my market they just had that program on Demand for two weeks. I think it is off now buit, it is definitely getting a lot of air time.

I think this week The 10! show in Phialdelphia is going ot air another t.v segment I just did on PCOS!

So, if you are in the Philly, area, I wil keep you posted on the date, be sure to tune in!!!

Thanks agian everyone for watching!

All the Best,
Ashley

That show is what actually inspired me to learn more. I already knew quite a bit about my problem, but when she was talking about insulin resistance that was something I hadn't heard of before.
