PCOS 'dormant' while nursing? Hi everyone!
I was d/x with PCOS in November 2003, treated using Metformin and a low GI diet, and got pg with my daughter in April 2004. She was born in November 2004 and I have been nursing her ever since.
I discontinued the Met after the first trimester and have not gone back on it. I gained 60 pounds with the pregnancy but lost it all within about 5 months postpartum with no dieting whatsoever. I also have been taking the mini-pill since my 6 week pp checkup.
A few weeks ago I decided to have my internist check my hormone levels. Including my fasting insulin and glucose to insulin ratio. And all of my results were totally normal... in fact the only hormone that was elevated was my prolactin, because I am still nursing.
Is this because of nursing? Because of the pill? Is there any chance I am 'cured'?
