I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for an ob/gyn that specializes in PCOS in Chicago, preferrably somewhere on the north side or in a north suburb. I'm not ttc (have a toddler), but want to discuss birth control options with someone who is sensitive to my concerns (got pregnant on bcp, despite PCOS- I know, it's crazy).
Hi Jencher, I am on the north side of Chicago as well! Welcome to the boards.
The University of Chicago Hospitals apparently has a specialization in PCOS. Unfortunately, they are very much on the South Side. However, they do have a clinic in the loop that specializes in reproductive medicine and fertility. They list PCOS on the website, but I don't know if you have to be ttc to go. I am hoping you don't, and I keep meaning to call to get an appointment at some point with them because I want to check up on things before I lose comprehensve medical coverage in August.
My doctor is Catherine Clinton at Northwestern. She is on Superior/St. Claire ish--- http://nmhphysicians.photobooks.com/...stname=clinton here is her info. There is also an endo there that runs lots of PCOS studies but I have yet to make an appointment with her--- have some other issues I am dealing with with my stomach at the moment and well other things are on hold... http://nmhphysicians.photobooks.com/...Y&Lastname=dun hth

I was on the L tonight, and noticed that Northwestern seems to be doing a study using overweight women with normal periods to do a study about metabolism. What interested me was that the email to contact was pcos@northwestern.edu. They also seem to be using women with PCOS as well. http://www.pcos.northwestern.edu/research_studies.htm
Dr. Dunaif was also reccomended to me. I just haven't made the appointment yet. I should.
Also - the study at Northwestern is done by her. FYI--- (I've also seen the posters on the "el") Actually two of my friends who I think are "cysters" but they beg to differ and I were reading the poster on the redline on Friday night.
Not sure how I feel about entering medical studies.

P.S. Heather you should join in our "Chicago Area Meetup" we're trying to round up some people. Where do you live in the city? I live North and work Central South West.....
I know this is stupid but I am kind of waiting to go to the endocrinologist also until I lose a little of my weight again--- which would be easier if I quit eating so much CRAP--- I DON'T want to go on Met and I will refuse! My stomach has enough problems anyway without it!

I am in Rogers Park, off the Morse stop on the redline. In fact, I was on the red line when I saw the sign too. I might give it to my roommate. I don't suspect she has PCOS, but she might have endrometriosis, so I don't know if they'll use her. But a free specialized eating plan, full barrage of tests, and money? I was sort of sad that I wouldn't qualify.
I need to go to an endo before my parent's insurance expires on me, so I am hoping they will squeeze me in. I just want to see where my numbers have come in a year.
I am in Ravenswood off the Montrose or Damen stop of the brownline. Not FAR from the Wilson stop of the Redline but my 'hood is a bit more stable than that area. I could walk to it though in not much time. It's about a mile I'd guess.
The doctor above is one of those "would like to talk to your primary care doctors first."
I also have endometriosis. Though they said it was "mild" I think it is messing with my intestines right now but all the doctors beg to differ. I'm just not sure.
I hope it is a little cooler out today... yesterday was just sweltering.

I know that this isn't "really" a suburb, but my dr is in Rockford and he is AWESOME and so knowledgeable with PCOS and IVF. I would say worth the drive. I drive 40 minutes to see him in Peru, Illinois.... he also has an office in Peoria and Madison, WI.... His name is Dr. Jacek Graczykowski and he works for Reproductive Health and Fertility Clinics, their website is http://www.fres-rhfc.com
He is a Reproductive Endocrinologist and was an OB previously.

Hi Mjj,
I glad to meet you...i have just worked my way up to 2000 mg of met XR and its great so far.....ok some side effects but i can manage. I like my doctor (Dr. Dunaif) so far...i appreciated the fact she wanted to talk to my primary doctor..but actually my gyne was more involved. for the most part i asked to see her and the other docs just went along w/ it for the referral...i mean they didnt know what Else to do besides metformin.

I made an appointment with Catherine Clinton at Northwestern for next week. Which was much less of a wait than the September 6th appointment I made a few weeks ago with Dr. Ehrmann at U of Chicago.
I like her--- Hope you do too-- She's talked to me on the phone about little things a few times instead of making me have to come in and she has late appointments AND Saturday appointments once a month---

Yea, I am hoping I can get a full bloodwork done up to see where I've come in a year before my insurance expires. Now if I can just get in touch with my old doctor to get a copy of my bloodwork for comparison...
