| Registered User | I've not been diagnosed yet, just started gaining weight, losing hair, and AF is a little off, so I'm so lucky I found this board, as I'm making a appointment with my ob/gyn, and not taking no for a answer, going in with guns blazing to ensure I get a diagnosis and referral if he's not experienced enough to run the proper test. I've got a printout to take to him, and will get whatever is wrong diagnosed, am already exercising and have changed diet, but will help to have his support! Lydia |

You know your body and what you feel. After all this time only 1 doctor looked for my insulin levels instead of looking at the male hormones which were normal and the fact I've always had regular periods. |

| Registered User | I saw specialists for 6 years before one finally did a sonogram...I see specialists now and none of them think I have PCOS. I have all the symptoms, and had a tumor removed with one ovary 5 years ago and have/had cysts ...for some reason my tests always come back normal...apparently they are not the right tests... peggy |

| Registered User | I was just told at work about this wonderful site! I've been diagnosed about 1 month although I've had the feeling I had PSOS for several months. We are activly trying to get pregant and have been for 2 years with no luck. I am on 500mg of met which has at least made me have a period for the first time in 7 months. I have done clomid as well this month. What I'm looking for is someone who also has Factor V Leidon as well. I was diagnosed several years ago as it is in my family. I need some support and hope these days. Everyone keeps telling me I "have time" and that it was good that I "started early". But none of that really helps. I need someone going through the same situation. This site is very helpful and I hope to find some additional answers. Thanks |

| Registered User | I am pretty sure I have PCOS, but I am terrified to go to the DR for fear of the unknown I suppose. I don't know anyone with this disorder and I am also afraid of the DR just brushing me off. I don't want this to go untreated any longer as it has been some time since I've known this was probably the cause of many of the problems I have. :-( |

| Registered User | I cannot tell you all how happy I am to find this site. I thought I was the only one with all of these problems. I am 30 years old and am undiagnosed as of yet, but it seems like PCOS is the only answer to my problems. I have never had infertility issues (thank god), but I have had *female* problems for years. My periods would last for 10 days and I thought I wanted to die, from the time I was 15 or so. I wasn't too bad in my early twenties, and had 3 successfull pregnancies. However, when I was in the o.r. having my c- section with my 2nd child, the dr. found what he thought was a tumor in my ovary (+5.5 cm). It turned out to be a cyst. I became pregnant 3 months later and had my last child. However since that time, I have had only about 12 periods in 5 years. When I do have my period it lasts forever ( 10 days or more) and is so painfull I have to take prescription pain medication. I have migraines once a month, around where my old period used to arrive. I have gained 100+ lbs. in the past 5 years as well. I have the trademark "ring around the collar" and underarms. I remember scrubbing in the shower for an hour at a time trying to get "clean" in high school. It was so embarrasing, but now I realize that its not dirty, its just a skin discoloration. When I first went to my dr. she told me to be thankfull for 3 periods a year, and dismissed the acne and extra hair as "things that happen as you get older" What a load of bs. I am making an appointment with a new dr. asap and have some bloodwork done. Thank God that I found (hopefully) an answer to all my baffling medical problems. Keep strong, and thanks for the hope. |

| Registered User Join Date: Nov 2006 Location: Northeast , USA ![]() | Hi. I am not new to pcos/insulin resistance as i have Hashimoto's disease (hypothyroidism), had for just about 3 years into. It is directly linked to pcos & i have had just about every symptom. My fasting glucoses were always WAY above 100 (110-120, several times i've gotten 130-140. I dont use sugar and generally follow the south beach diet) , also gained ovr 20 lbs this year & couldnt take it off no matter what. I told this to my ob/gyn np (nurse practitioner) & she just ignored it, said i probably had pcos all my life except i dont recall ever having these symptoms & having 3-4 periods a year when i was younger (i'm 44 & have had only 4 this year)I explained this to my pcp (i've had for 9 years) & he agreed to try me on Metformin on 11/19. I started at 425 mg & increased to 850 within 4 weeks, he wants me to increase to 1000 mg a day (split in 500 twice a day) So far so good. My fasting sugars are now 101, 96, 98 , 100 or less. Also lost over 10 lbs and still slowly losing (still sticking to South Beach) I dont know if it's metformin or the Armour Thyroid i'm taking (since 11/1, i was on Synthroid for a year, it made me sick & overweight in the end, it increases your metabolism so you eat more) or a combination of both. Still no period but menstrual cramps constantly (severe at times) Does it really take up to 6 months before that part is straightened out, or is it perimenopause? Seeing that there is no reason for me to have a hysterectomy & i still have a uterus (had a tubal ligation in 1995) it must still continue to work, no? I'm increasing the Metformin in a couple of weeks. I would feel SOOOO much better if i would bleed! BTW what does AF & BFP stand for? Just wondering. OK anyone else on the same boat as me? I would love to hear from you!![]() |

| Registered User Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Delaware ![]() | Hello...I am new to the boards and I am currently waiting to get into the doctor for my first appointment. My GYN told me a few years ago that he thought I had PCOS, I had one round of blood tests, but unfortunately I switched jobs and lost insurance befor I could go further. I now live in another state, have a new job, and new insurance. I can't get into the doc's til May 24th because I am coming in as a new patient. I am really hoping to get things under control before I get married in October because I know we want to TTC not long after we're married. I have a bunch of the classic symptoms....too much hair where I don't want it to be, it's very hard to lose weight, most of my weight is around my middle, I'm tired ALOT, my skin has dramatically changed over the past few years (it's soooo dry now and never used to be), and I also have virutally no periods at all. I would say I haven't had a period in 3 years, maybe more. I've recently started dieting in hopes that diet modification will help. My half sister who also has PCOS recently announced that she's pregnant and she really hasn't done anything as far as drugs go...just eating healthier. Any advice on what I can do now until I have my appointment in May? And what should I ask the doctor when I finally see her? Thanks Ladies! |

I've dabbled a little on these boards before, but now I'm finding I'm showing up every day. We are ttc right now, so I'm looking for all the support and education I can get. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone, you all seem like wonderful people! I'm just trying to stay positive, keep my head up and learn everything I can from women who seem to know much more than me!
