| Registered User | I just found out that I have polycystic ovaries two days ago. This is the best website! It made me feel good that I found other people who understand what I am feeling and going through. Can you have polycystic ovaries and not have pcos? I still have to do tests. My doctor diagnosed me through an ultrasound. ![]() |

| In doubt... Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: London ![]() | Hi, I am new here. I thought I'd introduce myself. I haven't been diagnosed. My current symptoms: * I am overweight * I have hirsutism (this has been killing me for ages, probably since I was 18 when it became very obvious) A bit of history: When I was about 18 my mum took me to the doctor's because nothing seemed to make me lose weight, I had lots of hair on my face and lots of acne. I was referred to an endocrynologist who performed all the tests. Ultrasound and bloodtests, everything came back normal. He put me on a diet that didn't quite work and that was it. I started having sex at age 20 and the acne completely went away (from one month to the next, amazing) along with some of the extra weight - I call this phenomenon the power of love. However, I still have very bad hirsutism and I am somewhat overweight. So I went to see my GP again a year ago to see if he could prescribe vaniqa for the hair and test me again for polycystic ovaries. He told me that I needed to be on the "healthy weight range" before he could order the tests, and he expressed some reservations because my cycles are very regular and I haven't got any fertility issues (I have never tried to get pregnant, so I don't know where he gets this "fertility issues" issue from). Anyway, I came back six months later having lost some weight but he said I still had a little to go. Two weeks ago I went back again and I still have some weight to lose. I am at the end of my tether because shedding the pounds has been very very very difficult and my hirsutism persists no matter what. Sorry for the outburst, I just needed to let it out. Any suggestions?, please. |

| PCOS mutant | mariela welcome to SC! ive been there where u are before and it sucked because i still had hope that i didnt have PCOS but then again my symptoms such as hirsutism were always on my mind and i knew that was a problem.and it killed me too but dont worry theres laser thank god!i always got teased by boys about my hirsutism i had it on my face and apparently my mother never felt like she should tell me that it was becoming thicker and extremely obvious so i dont know somehow in my head i thought it didnt show.but thank god now i've gotten laser and it worked wonders.you should look into it,BUT i think you should change doctors.who said u needed to lose weight for him to check out if you have PCOS?u'd be surprised not alot of drs know what PCOS is.they're not too familiar with it.i knew a girl who had hirsutism, cysts, enlarged ovaries, high testosterone, and her dr told her there was no way she had PCOS because some of her bloodwork was normal and the other half wasnt.he should have referred her to an endo so yeah ur dr is weird.it could be possible you have it i hope you dont, but whatever it is you should get it treated and it seems ur dr is taking a stroll in the park.go to a doctor who actually cares and u'll see and feel the difference!

| Registered User | I'm so glad that I've found this site! It will take me days to go through all of the great information here! Just a quick background on myself... My mother was diagnosed with PCOS after two years of trying to conceive when she finally went to a civilian doctor (my father was in the Army) who diagnosed her immediately. She had an ovarian wedge reduction and a couple of months later, she conceived me and was able to carry to term but the following two pregnancies resulted in early miscarriages. I suspected that I had PCOS and even though my gyno was the same one who diagnosed my mother, delivered me, and handled my mother's miscarriages, he told me that it was impossible to inherit and that he didn't think that I had it. Even when I went down the list of symptoms that I had, he still didn't think it was a problem and told me not to worry about it. Shortly after that, I got married and lost my insurance. So I've never been formerly diagnosed and probably won't be until I have health insurance again, but I prefer to do things the natural way anyway. And I really hope to get some great ideas from here to tide me over until I can have the proper testing done and can find out exactly what is going on! |

Doesn't listen to anything I have to say and suggests that BCP will help the ovulation, Retin-A for the acne, and says he doesnt SEE the hair that is growing like FUR on my face. So I said can you PLEASE at least run some tests, seeing as how bcp's will not tell us WHY I have hair everywhere, acne, oily hair, weight gain and crazy cycles. So he says to me "Obviously nothing I can say or do here today will satisfy you, so I'm going to send you to an OBGYN..." and "No, I don't see how testing your glucose and insulin levels will help the OBGYN" .. So, he doesnt listen, then passes it off, sends me for like one out of 5 tests that should be done and says I wont find out when my referral date is until AFTER his vacation (3 weeks long). Now I live in Canada so testing for glucose and insulin is covered by our public health care.. you would think he would have just ordered the tests so the other dr wont HAVE to do it, and it will be done before i see him.. rather than after.. which means i will wait another who knows HOW long... anybody else having trouble getting somebody to CARE? (i was really nice and calm the entire time i was at the dr's office and almost left in tears.. so he had no reason to treat me like that) |

I'm not exactly bitter, am i? lol i honestly dont know what the harm is in sending a person for tests that they know they need... it should have been no skin off his back.. he was going on vacation anyways... not like he had to be BOTHERED by my results even if he wasnt passing me off..ugh. sometimes (and maybe only for a fraction of a second) i wish we had to pay for healthcare here, just so i could PICK my dr, and not be scoffed at. i mean SERIOUSLY, what woman wants to have a hairy chin? all the symptoms are giving me a complex. and then before i leave you know what he says? "its not like its life or death IS IT? it can wait"...how does he know im not so depressed that it is life and death.. im not.. but if i was, saying something like that might have made it worse dont you think? i felt like saying well if there was a ugly looking growth on your jewels would you want to WAIT a billion weeks for tests? ok.. the more i wait for my apt, the more agitated i get. thanks for reading.. ciao ladies Last edited by maribel : 08-01-2007 at 09:52 AM. | In doubt... Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: London ![]() | Thanks very much. It has been really informative and helpful to read these forums. Just finding that I am not alone is enough ![]() I am trying to register at another pratice near my home. I hope the GPs there will be more supportive and I will finally get diagnosed (or not, whichever). I just want to get peace of mind and know what's wrong. Like Maribel said it is not normal to have a coarser beard than my boyfriend and someone needs to have a serious look at my hormones/glucose/insuline. Thanks again Quote:

Even more so because it poses physical and mental challenges. I SO don't feel attractive having to shave everything from my toes to my chin. Do they really know how much courage it takes us to say "hey wait, i dont wanna hide this anymore, it ISNT normal, i dont like it and i think something is wrong" only to have them say to us, oh its nothing here's some pills (basically get outta my face and come back in a month so i can get more money from you) UGh... good luck Mariela and let me know how it goes! also if you happen to find a really nice dr in the london area who is not a horse's behind.. let me know that too.. ![]() |

| Registered User Join Date: Oct 2006 Location: California ![]() | Hello, I am very glad to be here. I was told I had PCOS when I was 28 (now 33) but I am new to the website, so far I am loving it! I think it is a great tool! I know I have PCOS but now my doctor is testing me for Diabetes. It is very scary however, I know there are plenty of people on this site that can understand. When I was told I had PCOS, I went through all the emotions-denial, anger, depression, etc. Now I feel that I am going through these same emotions as I wait for test results to tell me whether or not I have Diabetes. I am so glad there is a website here to vent, ask questions and get so much info on PCOS... so many women has this condition now... it is very nice to feel that you are not alone. |
