Hey Maribel,

I can feel your frustration, I would actually go get a second opinion. Try out different doctors. I had to do that until I found one that really cared and knew allot about PCOS. Also, I actually went and seen an Endocrinologist... these doctors specilize in hormones and they know allot about PCOS.

I hope that helps and keep your head up!

I am new to this, I just joined yesterday. I think my 17 yr old daughter has PCOS. I was watching a show on TV the other night, and she had all the symptoms the lady was describing. Facial hair, overweight, acne, oily skin and hair, coarse textured hair, and she is very masculine looking. And has been that way since puberty. I have two older daughters and they do not have the same features. She is 5'8" and weighing around 240 lbs. The only thing is she doesn't have the irregular cyles. But had her gall bladder removed several months ago, along with a huge cyst on one of her ovaries. And still complains of pain in her side. Would someone please help me with this. I am a very concerned mother.

What kind of doctor does your daughter see? She should probably be seen by a gyn who has lots of experience/knowledge about PCOS. A lot of ladies have found great success with limiting or eliminating processed carbs. Metformin worked great for me, also. Check this link:

I am super new to this site, just joined today. My doctor suggested that I come here and talk about what’s going on with other women having similar issues.

I have been TTC for 1.5 years now and nothing, my doctor recently diagnosed me with PCOS actually last week. She has started my on Metformin and has been doing IVU weekly, in fact my next appointment is tomorrow.

I mainly joined this site because I have been really down about my situation (especially after the doc said there was little hope). I'm just looking for a little encouragement and hope!

Welcome! Please check the Trying To Conceive and Pregnacy boards. Many ladies on this site were given little hope, but have been successful in getting pregnant.

It's horrible. I've been trying to get exact dx's since I was 14 years old. Because symptoms started showing up at such a young age all doctors were too nervous to tell me that I had PCOS. I have almost every symptom and now I'm 18 years old trying to get an exact answer and instead of sending my to a gyno my doctors just tell me here's your birth control and some Doxycycline... be happy. I know I have it, it would just be nice to get an exact answer, get what I mean? It's bothersome always being told "maybe you have PCOS, you just have all the symptoms but we don't want to risk telling you yes." We'll see what happens.

I had my first period at age 12 and 15 years later, I've had about 12 periods in that period. I have all the symptoms and I would go from doctor to doctor begging for someone to make sense of all of this. I finally saw a doctor at a women's health clinic when I was getting a colposcopy and I explained my symptoms to her (including acanthosis nigricans) when we were talking and she sent me for tests. The ultrasound showed cysts all over my left ovary. Bloodwork was hard to interpret because they didn't know where I was in my cycle so they could have been normal but she didn't want to take the chance with that. I was put on metformin (500mg/day and Yasmin). 9 months later when I was experience a period of major depression, I stopped taking all medications (including anti-depressants) and I undid everything I'd worked so hard to get achieve. AN is back and worse than ever. Hair growth on my face is yuck. I gained 10 lbs in a month. I'm probably taking a huge chance, but until I get back into see her, I've decided to take 1500mg/day of met and I'm back on yasmin in the hopes that it will get my IR under control. I had bloodwork done and I have to go in for another glucose type test which involves fasting. Not sure of the details because her nurse just called me and told me to go get some more bloodwork done.

Sorry for the long post. That's my story!

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and I have not yet been diagnosed with PCOS. I have a pituitary tumor called a macroadenoma which is secreting to much prolactin in my body causing irregular periods, lack of ovulations, milk in the breast, weight gain, and infertility. I have been having unprotected sex with DH for over 2 years and never got pregnant. Since I found this site I noticed that many of the symptoms I am reading about I have as well. I have suffered with a sharp pain on my right side for many years now. The pain is right in the crease of the leg by the hip area and is extremely severe and sharp then it goes away. It comes and goes from time to time and has been for many years now. I also have some hair growing on my chin and cheecks. I have complained about the pain and have had an US done. They didn't find cycst however they noticed extra fluid. I also get dark patches on my skin and after reading this info it makes me think that I have PCOS as well.I have asked drs about the dark spots on my stomach and they don't seem to know what it is. I will be scheduling a appointment to try and get a dx. Reading all of the info on this site has been extremely helpful.

I hope you get your DX and get on a good treatment plan that works for you.

The dark spots could be AN: http://www.diabetes.org/for-parents-...tes/type-2.jsp

If so you could have IR or diabetes. Get your blood sugar and insulin levels checked and think about starting Metformin or Cinnamon (I'm on both).

Do they really know how much courage it takes us to say "hey wait, i dont wanna hide this anymore, it ISNT normal, i dont like it and i think something is wrong" only to have them say to us, oh its nothing here's some pills (basically get outta my face and come back in a month so i can get more money from you) UGh... good luck Mariela and let me know how it goes! also if you happen to find a really nice dr in the london area who is not a horse's behind.. let me know that too..
Maribel,

Still nothing, I'm afraid. I changed GPs and it went from bad to worse. The problem seems to be that I have "regular" cycles (about 32 days long) and that puts them off looking at hormones and other things. This one at least checked my blood glucose levels, which came back normal apparently.

It is really frustrating to hear that everything is okay when the symptoms are there and not going anywhere by the way.

My bf and I are moving south in two weeks' time and I will register with a new GP. So here we go again... I'll keep you posted.

In the meantime, I've decided to go the natural way and apart from saw palmetto (helped loads) I'm taking cinnamon and I have noticed a difference in many of my symptoms.

Thanks for the support!

This is my first time posting as well. I haven't had a regular cycle ever. Nurse practitioner told me 2 years ago that I could possible have PCOS when she looked at my ovaries. They were covered in cysts. Didn't really worry about it until My husband and I wanted a baby. Couldn't get pregnant. Was put on Clomid and after 4 months I got a BFP! I was so excited. Gave birth to my son Mason in May. Haven't had a cycle since. It has been 6 months now. Called the doctor and they gave me provera to induce a cycle and checked my LH/FSH levels. They were 3 and 11!!!
