| Registered User | Hello all! New here. Suspected PCOS for a long time, but doctors always said that because my ovaries were fine I didn't have it. Insulin Resistance for sure.... I have a complicated history and have been making huge strides. This issue - the insulin resistance/irregular/absent cycles is one of the last of two health issues left that I have to heal. I also went through a drug protocol to reset my thyroid. It didn't work - did damage to my body, though. It left me with high blood pressure even though I had low blood pressure before. So, I'm trying to determine the right carb plan. I've tried many, many things and a low glycemic index diet with a balanced amount of good fats works best for me. However, if I go too low on carbs I have no energy. I'm trying to find a balance AND have my food be something that my children can eat as well. Experts disagree about low carb diets and kids. So, hello and feel free to weigh in.... : ) |

| In doubt... Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: London ![]() | Masons_momma07, Cinnamon has helped me loads. I´m a bit too cautious now to say that I´m cured for sure (still not getting a dx in the first place), but my cycles are 28 days long (down from 32), no depression/mood swings, a lot less acne, less body and facial hair, no more abdominal pain, less scalp hair loss, a few pounds lighter with no diet at all. In general, most of my symptoms have improved greatly. I am so happy to have found cinnamon and in a way, it was taking the cinnamon that finally gave me a dx. I definitely have insulin resistance. My mum and sis both have pcos also, although only my sis has been dxed. My mum is now diabetic. So it is really frustrating that GPs are still reluctant to order further tests. However, after taking cinnamon for nearly three months... will the tests still show pcos? M. |

| Registered User | Hi Obstacles, I'm probably not the best person to give you a response but i do know that any moral support feels like a million bucks when dealing with PCOS. I myself am having alot of trouble dealing w it even after all the years i been diagnosted. But i think i can answer a few questions,n give a few advice. Met sometimes takes a while to actually help your body but also other things like yes loosing weight will make a big improvement.I know it is very hard to shed the weight,i struggled w my weight for years myself.Lost what i needed to loose about 4 years ago,n the only way i found that worked n to keep it off was by exercising everyday, and i did cut my food portions smaller and had healthy snacks in between during my day(witch one meal a day my dear is the worst thing to do,try eating a few more healthy snacks throughout the day). But i did it all gradually as i was having a hard time doing it all at once. It took me a year to loose the weight i wanted n needed to loose but it was worth all the hard work just for the healthy side of it. As for menstrual cycle, i always had my periods way too much n my specialist never really was able to get me to b regular besides when he had me on clomids. The same month i would stop the pills my periods were back at irregular. Yes it is normal for some woman to have hairutism(hair in unwanted areas) N to have hair loss. Always remember that we are basicly all different in what ties us all together. We dont all have the same symptoms so it makes it that much more difficult. As many of the symptoms as you can knock off the better it is (for exemple, weight loss,Mets for regulating insuline absortion...ect.....)I hope i was able to help a bit but in either case keep reading the more info you can get the better it is to understand some of it.All the luck to you. take care |

| Registered User | I was diagnosed with PCOS back in August 2007. The only b/w they did was the DHEAS. Should I be concerned and ask for more tests? I have just about all the symptoms of PCOS though. |

I'm going to bring it up to my Dr. when I go in for my yearly next month. |

| Registered User | it was the same for me I have been married now for 7 years. I was starting to get a little worried about conceiving. I was seeing the same GYM for over 5 years and all she would do for me is put me on these hormone pills that made me want to kill my husband lol !!! In October I transfered to an OB-gyn and that's when she asked me if i have ever been tested for PCOS. She took some blood work and I as positive. I also underwent a trans vaginal ultrasound to check if i had cyst on my ovaries. luckily I did not have any cysts. I started taking metformin in October 3 times a day and MY doctor just put me on Clomid. |

| Bride-To-Be Join Date: Jan 2008 Location: Ontario, Canada ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I went to my doctor when I was 19 years old. I was concerned because my boyfriend and I were having unprotected sex for four years and I did not get pregnant. I had a huge weight gain in a small amount of time, no periods or periods that lasted WAY to long. She told me to come back when I was more serious about the situation. So finally, I came back three years later, July 2007, and told her I was tired of not having my period. Still hadn't gotten pregnant and I don't use ANY birthcontrol, burning when ejaculation is inside of me (TMI sorry :O ) and no period for eight months. She ordered a ultrasound and the NURSE told me that my ovaries were enlarged and that I probably had PCOS. I went back to my doctor and she told me I 'sort of' had PCOS. They took my blood but because my blood wasn't the typical of someone with PCOS, she still thought I didn't have it. I came back two months later and only had ONE period for THREE days, she turned to me and say... Oh, you have PCOS. **Rolls Eyes** Now in March I have an appointment with a GYNO. For now I am on BCP and at least have a period once a month and my acne has cleared up a bit. I've lost six pounds and I'm not so bloated so much. My hair on my chin even stopped growing. But I would like to be normal with out BCP. I don't want to rely on this. Because I guess I don't see it as being normal. How normal is it that if I wasn't on BCP, I would have no periods at all and continue to have horrible acne and have black hair growing on my chin!! Not normal at all. It's all so frustrating! Really, really, REALLY frustrating! |
