I don't know if this has ever come up on any of the threads, sorry if its a repeat.
I have never had regular periods without birth control pills. After getting frustrated at the cost of fertility/hormone treatments at the Reproductive Endocrinologist, I had lost almost all hope. My husband and I decided to go back to my regular ob/gyn and stop ttc. I asked her if there was any way to use the progesterone pills to have a period and not stop a "happy accident" from occuring. She told me to regulate it myself by have 3 month cycles. I was cool with that.
Anyway here the part I'm excited about.
I went home and did some research on the internet on natural hormone balance etc. The thing that caught my eye was Green Tea. I don't remember where the articles were but it is a chinese herbal treatment. So I thought it couldn't hurt to try it. I try anything at this point!!!! I started drinking 1 or 2 glasses a day a year ago February and I have had a regular cycle for a full 12 months and my bloodwork came back consistant with ovulation I havn't gotten pregnant but there is hope again. Just thought I'd share.

Thanks for sharing! I'm going to have to try that one. I have regular cycles but I'm o'ing small, immature eggs. Maybe the green tea will help ~ can't hurt, right .

Dawna,
thank u for sharing this, a friend of mine is looking for natural ways of getting her period back, and is interested. I am wondering if you think the glucophage had anything to do it, were you using it long before beginning the green tea? I ask this because glucophage sometimes normalizes irregular cycles also.
Wow DLH, that's awesome news? Were you on any other pills during the time you were drinking green tea? What other supplements were you using? Were you on a low carb diet? Just making sure it wasn't something else besides the green tea which gave you regular cycles. I wonder if green tea capsules are as effective as drinking it. I hate tea
I know the glucophage helped with my insulin levels but I never cycled with it alone. I haven't tried to remove the glucophage and just go with the green tea. I kinda feel if it aint broke don't fix it Hope this helps!
Emmanuelle,
The only other things I am taking is the glucophage and pre natal vits. No diets really. Just try to eat as healthy as possible. I have hesitated to try the capsules. I love iced tea so it is really no problem for me. I have found a brand of already brewed green tea. It is called Arizona Iced Tea. There is one version of the green tea that has plum juice. To me it is like drinking fruit juice. Give it a try see what you think!

I've been taking Green Tea capsules (along with glucophage and some other vitamins) for two months, and my cycles have greatly improved in that time (last three have been 25, 26, and 28 days vs. 37, 76, and 58 days before that). I can't credit this improvement directly to the green tea, but believe it's helping.
I'd done some research on green tea (which I posted previously, click here ), which suggested that green tea can reduce estrogen, increase SHBG, and reduce free testosterone. I have an endo visit at the end of next month, and (I assume) more bloodwork, so am hoping to see some positive improvements.
Emmanuelle - I believe the capsules are as effective as the tea. I like the tea, but take the capsules to make sure I'm getting a consistent dose each day.
HTH!

There is a company that manufactures a product called Tegreen which has undergone some testing and it shows that it's a potentially strong insulin sensitizer which is good news. More research needs to be done though. Don't you just wish there was a company that would make one product which would include all the best insulin sensitizing supplements? I think that if I had the power to make a product, I would include the following:
- R+alpha lipoic acid
- green tea extract
- cinnamon extract
- biotin
- pantothenic acid
- niacin
- vitamin D3
- GLA
- Fish Oil
- magnesium
- gymnema sylvestre
- bitter melon
- PGX fiber
- apple cider vinegar
- chromium
- manganese
- vanadium
- caucasian blueberry extract I mean wouldn't that just be the end of Metformin and other drugs if such a supplement existed? But it would also probably cost a small fortune :-(
I just want to mention that the flouride content in green tea may be a concern for thyroid patients. Here is a link to some info about it, but you can do an internet search and come up with lots more:

I take the GNC brand standardized Green Tea capsules. They are 150 mg each, and I take two per day (FYI, it's about $10 for 90 capsules - or a 45 day supply).
From what I've read, each capsule is roughly equivalent to 2-4 cups of green tea (it varies by manufacturer, and I'm not sure where in that range the GNC brand falls). Each cup of green tea contains approximately 100 tea catechins (the key ingredient in green tea). The capsules don't contain caffeine.
BTW, I've also heard that green tea can help lower cholesterol. And, it's also reported to prevent the cell damage that causes certain cancers.
HTH,

You all have me on a quest to dust off my old bottle of green tea capsules and start again. I took it years ago for cholesterol. At this point it's been 14 months since I had my daughter and i have not had a cycle yet. I am nursing, but this is getting concerning. I want to TTC again and would love to avoid the Gonal-F this time.

I had been drinking 2-3 cups of green tea a day for the past month -- my cycles have not improved, actually they got worse! My acupuncturist told me that green tea has "cold" effect on the body and with my kidney yang deficiency I should avoid all foods and drinks that have a "cold" effect....
