PCOS hair loss or something else? Two years ago, when I was 16, my doctor diagnosed me with PCOS. Today, I'm unsure whether that diagnosis was correct. At the time, the only symptom I had was irregular periods which often would not come for up to four months. Without testing for anything, my doctor perscribed birth control pills which did regulate my period. Still, when I went home, I looked up the symtpoms and I was not at all overweight and did not have any excess hair. I did have acne, but I was 16 so that was normal. A year ago, I did have cholesterol that was 1 point above normal, but I still don't know if that is related. Today, I have a bigger problem, at least by my standards. My hair appears to be falling out at a faster rate than usual. Now, I have dyed my hair many, many times and right before the hair problems I dyed it again which made it very dry. But then I freaked out and used a lot of products to help with damaged hair which might have helped. I went to my hair stylist who told me that some hair loss is normal a couple times a year and that it wasn't too bad. But that was a month ago, and the hair hasn't stopped coming out! I'll look down and find strands on my shoulders and shirt all throughout the day. This is obviously a huge blow my self-esteem and I'm worried that it'll continue to fall out. I originally had very thick hair but now it seems thinner to me. Is this PCOS related or not? (I'm currently out of the country so I can't see my physician yet.) |
