Default PCOS Health Review newsletter

In this issue of the PCOS Health Review newsletter:
1) Is Vitamin D a "Missing Link" in PCOS?
2) Vitamin D and Fertility
3) Bre.ast Cancer and Male Hormones
4) Biotin for Healthy Ha.ir

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Is Vitamin D a "Missing Link" in PCOS?
There is a "forgotten vitamin" that plays an
important role in dealing with PCOS and improving
your overall health.
It's vitamin D, the "sunshine" vitamin.
Unfortunately, women with PCOS tend to have
lower than adequate vitamin D levels. This is a big
problem.
Optimal vitamin D levels help to improve fertility,
control weight, reduce insulin resistance, maintain
br.east health and more.
For many, vitamin D supplementation will be
helpful. We will soon be offering a PCOS
supplement that contains vitamin D.
2) Vitamin D and Fertility.
Calcium plays a vital role in egg maturation and
normal follicular development. As you may know,
PCOS is characterized by abnormal follicular
development and insulin resistance in PCOS may
impair egg quality.
Vitamin D plays a crucial role in calcium regulation
and thus may help to normalize the development of
your follicles and increase odds of becoming
fertile.
3) Bre.ast Cancer and Male Hormones
High levels of male hormones (androgens) in
young women appear to raise their risk of
developing bre.ast cancer, according to a recent
report.
Androgens are normally present in women,
although at much lower levels than in men.
However, in PCOS women, androgens are
frequently elevated. They also frequently have low
progesterone levels.
High androgens (such as testos.terone) and low
progesterone have each been linked to increased
risk of bre.ast cancer.
We strongly recommend that you make healthy,
intelligent lifestyle choices in addition to whatever
medications you may be taking.
It's well known that a healthy diet, exercise and
stress management are very helpful for both
PCOS and bre.ast cancer prevention. We discuss
a healthy lifestyle in great detail in our book.
4) Biotin for Healthy Ha.ir
Have you ever noticed that some specialty
shampoos contain biotin, a B-vitamin?
The reason they include biotin is that it aids in the
production of healthy ha.ir. If you have an issue
with ha.ir loss or poor ha.ir quality, you will want to
learn more about biotin and consider taking it as a
supplement.
Some health professionals have reported that high
doses of biotin helped their patients to restore
healthier ha.ir.
Biotin also is helpful for maintaining blood sugar
control, which is a problem for many women with
polycystic ovary syndrome.
Question Has anyone else read "The PCOS Protection Plan"
Hello,
I have just joined this group and was wondering if anyone had read the PCOS Protection Plan. What did you think of it? Any other books you would suggest instead.
I found it to be very informative, easy to read and completed it within a day or two. There are simple explanations for the risks that come along with PCOS as well as how to reverse those risks. They have some receipes listed as well as a weekly eating plan.
It condradicts however some of the things I was told when first diagnosed, such as "try to avoid eating carbs and fruit together; avoid carrots, pineapple and bananas; limit carb intake all together"
The plan seems to be more reasonsable and I would like to try it. Has anyone tried it?
thanks
