Hi,

I see you're on BCP. They're supposed to regulate your hormones so that you don't have mood swings. One of the primary uses of BCP is to reduce PMS.

If I were you, I would keep a diary of your feelings, and see if there is any correlation between your mood swings and your cycle. If its clearly related to your cycle (for example, for two days before your period) then I would say that that is the reason.

However, if its not, it is worth seeing a psychologist about this. There are lots of treatments out there. If its making your life unmanageable then its worth seeing somebody even if it is related to your periods - a psychologist may be able to give you some better coping strategies for those times.

Best of luck.

thing is i'v only been on dianette for just under 3 months (jsut about to finish my third batch) but i'v had mood swings since i was young, since just before my teens. these obviously got worse throughout my teens.
it was when i was 19 going on 20 that i lost it, i went completely off the rails i had what sounds like possibly a manic episode for a few months.

also i'd never had a period that wasnt drug induced so the moods are definitly not in sync with any cycle.

Well, then perhaps the Dianette will regulate these mood swings.

It sounds to me like you think that there might be a larger problem here, so it can't hurt to see a psychologist and talk to them about this. If possible, it might even be a good idea to see a psychiatrist, as they are also doctors and would be able to make a good assessment, taking into account the various physical medical issues that could contribute.

i just never wanted to mention anything before as i never thought it was depression, i just always blamed PCOS.
plus i'm really against the idea of taking 'happy pills' so i really dont want to take anything for the moods

I would certainly talk to you doctor. I just got out of the psych ward last week and was diagnosed with Cyclothymia VS Dysthymia (Milder Bipolar) and am doing a bit better now that my meds were switched. I was only on an antidepressant before, but if you are bipolar it can make the manic/depressive moodswings worse, to the point of suicidal tendencies. I am only on Lithium right now as I quit taking my antidepressant 3 days ago, but plan on talking to my doctor at the end of the month to get on a different one. Good luck!

I was diagnosed with many things, from anxiety disorders to depression to bi-polar before PCOS. The horomones (along with other chagnes in my life) have helped me greatly. See a doc and discuss all of the options!

I was finally diagnosed bipolar a few weeks ago after finally thinking I was for about 12 months or so when I came across some information on another website about it!

It's great to actually know that I was not going mad thinking back to all those bad times I had over the years!

I've come off AD meds and I knew from the start I didn't want to go onto Lithium because it's a drug that you would be on for life... I using CBT to learn to control those bad times!
