I've read a lot of post from those who have irritable bowel syndrome and pcos. Does anyone know what the connection is? I have 2 daughters. One,13, suffers from PCOS and the other,11, painfully suffers from IBS. Coincidence?
I also read that pcos is genetic, although I don't have it.
But this is something that I was thinking about last night, I have a long line of obesity in my family. All of the adult women (10) in my family on back to my paternal great grandmother are obese. I am talking 200-500 pounds. There has been no cases of diabetes or heart attacks, but a lot of miscarriages and stillbirths- no other symptoms of pcos except for my daughter. She has all the classic symptoms.
Sorry I'm just rattling off, but I was trying to figure out if it could all be connected somehow. Thanks.
But look at the rest of your familly history.
"All of the adult women have obestity"
This is a definate connection!
You say there is no cases of diabeties or heart attacks.
This may be partly true. For now.
One thing to remember is Insulin resistance is dominant for upwards of 25 years before it turns to diabeties.
So even though these women have not tested positive for diabeties doesn't mean that their dr's have failed to test for IR!!
I would say if all 10 of them went in for the IR test 8 of the 10 would be IR. Another issue to think about is heart issue don't come up until later years. My mother just started having issues with her in the last year. We think she too suffered with this illness since age 10. She is now 64. So I don't know how old these relitives are. But I am going to guess they are younger than my Mom.
Insulin resistance can happen to anyone who eats a poor diet and gets no exercise. In some cases women who do eat right and exercise still have major problems. But that is usually after they have started having problems and now they are trying to correct it.
So there is no one set of 'types' who will get it.
There are some types who get it more often though.
I honestly believe what type of a diet your raised on is the key here. Look at the diferent cultures. There are several which are more prone to it because of poorer conditions or what foods they eat. Americans have the worst diet of all and our obesity population has passed the 50% mark.
I thought I could share with you.
I wish you happy hunting in your quest here.

IBS is also very common with PCOS.
It again is related to diet.
My sis and I both have it but have dif symptoms and dif triggers.
For her, stress is her big trigger.
For me I actually got relief from it about 2 years ago.
I went from spontainious diarea to severe constipation over night.(REALLY)
But I believe that is due to my endometreosis.
I literally got very ill when the symptoms of endo took over.
Scar tissue wrpped around the bowel and that is what created the constipation.
So I am very careful not to miss any does of GlucXR or I am hurting for a few days.I am one of the few who receive help from the GlucXR! Amaising!

You mentioned about IBS and connections and i agree that it connects with things. Is PCOS an autoimmune condition? cos they all connect.
- My mum has lupus, arthritis and IBS - thin person, regular periods but fallopian tube problem b4 kids.
- My dad has IBS - tendency to extra pounds.
- My sister has asthma - tendency to extra pounds, PMS, regular periods.
- I have IBS, PCOS (very few periods, PMS). Tendency to extra pounds.
See how they all relate? I think it must then be environmental and genetics. What a bunch of sickbugs!
