The range depends on the lab doing the tests. Some labs read that 70 - 99 is norm, 100 - 125 pre-diabetes, and anything about 126, diabetes.

The lab my dr uses has 70-100 as norm. And there are some labs that read 70-109 are norm.

You should ask your dr what the normal values are for the lab used, and also ask if the insulin levels were tested.

Thanks! He said it was normal so I wasnt sure what the cut off was. For the insulin do you know what the special test is called or just ask for my insulin to be tested? I have so many things tested so often I cant remember what is what!

I too was skinny in my teens and 20's but started to gain about 10 lbs per year. I believe, based on the symptoms, that I was IR from the time I was about 16. My periods were like clockwork so no one ever notice. Any way, it wasn't until I was losing no weight that the alarms started to go off and by that time I was 225. I suspected the PCOS but had never even heard of it until my gyno thought that's what I had based on my bloodwork results. My endocrinologist confirmed it.

It's always a good idea to get copies of your lab results for yourself. It's pretty common for people to be told that their labs are 'normal' when, really, your own research might indicate otherwise.

The insulin test you want is a 'fasting insulin' test.

Ok this might be morbid but my cousin and I are both struggling with PCOS. The other night we were both watching everyone eat chips and drink beer. We were talking about how we were trying to avoid those things because of the syndrom when I said

"I was diagnosed with PCOS and all I got was this lousy moustache!"

I hope no one is offended! We thought it was absolutly hilarious!

Basically my biggest question is that if I have been diagnosed then is it in my best interest to switch my PCOS for an Endorcinologist?

I appreciate your help!
