I was recently banded June 9, 2008. However, I have not taken metformin for a month prior to the surgery to the present day. I will admit this was a choice I made on my own which may not be a great one. When you get banded they require you take chewable or liquid vitamins due to the reduction. Therefore, I figured not taking 3 horsepills would be a good idea. My period was due last week and it came in a 30 day cycle. What mainly concerns me is that the flow is little to none in oppose to normal to lots!
My question is...is there anyone out there that is banded and diagnosed with PCOS that takes Metformin? Any feedback, suggestions?
I left a message with my endocrynologist/fertility doctor and I am awaiting their response. (It was a holiday weekend) I will foloow up with them Monday.
I have a band and I take Riomet....it's liquid metformin. Unfortunately, it does not come in a generic but it works as well as if not better than the pill form. You may want to look it up and print out something on it and take it to your dr. It's new and my dr had not even heard of it when I asked for it.

hi, congrats on getting your band! i've recently started the process and i hope to be banded around january. i asked my doctor about the vitamin supplements and metformin and he said that many of his patients have had no problem swallowing their pills. i'm glad to know that there is a liquid form of met just in case i'd ever need it. be sure to come back and let us know what you end up doing.
Im am so excited to hear that there is a liquid form for metformin!!!! I will definitely address it with my doctor. I will be following up with his office tomorrow. I hope to get some directive form him and my surgeon.
Ladies I appreciate your responses and will keep you posted as to what I am going to do.
